Listing in Can. $

I took advantage of the offer to list in Can. $.  I have identical listings in US $.  The Canadian listings have no visits, while the US are popular.  Overall, after doing the math, the Canadian items are cheaper, yet, nobody is looking.  So, while I appreciate the offer, it would seem, it is not working (for me anyway).  Going forward, I will list in US again.  Not a lot of sales, but, a few is better than none.

I understand that Pierre but

If you sell in Can dollars and buy items in US dollars, the exchange and conversion fees will get very expensive

"you can bet you will also be billed in Can currency."

I expect that is what eBay will do. And it makes sense for most Canadian sellers.  Since most receive the proceeds of their sales in Cdn$, there is no logic in paying their fees in another currency.

Now, some Canadian sellers may want to continue listing on both eBay.ca (in Cdn$) and eBay.com (in US$). That is what I have been doing for years.

I wonder if eBay will allow sellers a choice of billing currency in such instance?

Currently when I list on eBay.uk I am billed in Sterling and when I list on eBay.fr I am billed in euro.  In all instances those fees find their way to the same account and are converted into Cdn$ (my billing currency)

In the good old days when I was a more active seller those fees were converted into US$ as it was my "billing currency" until about five years ago.

There will be changes at eBay in the future as there have been changed in previous years.  Most sellers adapt.

Now that you mention this, could it be that there are already some restrictions being put in place in this regard?

I recently attempted to change my billing currency from $Cdn to $US (which I should have done long ago, when I changed from listing in $Cdn to $US), but I got an error message saying I could not do so.

I realize only one switch per year is allowed, but I have never switched my billing currency previously at all.  I tried doing it again twice (a couple of weeks ago), and got the same error message each time.  There was no explanation in the message as to why I wasn't permitted to switch.  I just gave up.

I wonder if this could be the explanation for the inability to switch?  My account was completely up to date, so that wasn't the problem.

Another issue with 2 currencies if you want to move the listings in bulk to a different site that does not use multiple currencies or from a TL csv file it will be a disaster.

Rose I had the same problem with a new account.  You can call Ebay and find out a date that they have on file as your anniversary date.  Once you know that date you can change the currency to what you want.  In my case the default was CDN, I never had a choice nor had I ever set it up that way in the first place.  I also could not change it...........until my anniversary date arrived.

"you can change the currency to what you want. "

One should remember that the change is not immediate.  For a while sellers will carry two accounts - one in each currency, until all transactions where fees were payable in the original currency are completed.

Also, you want to make sure you have a source of payment compatible with your new currency of choice.

For example if you were being billed in US$ and payments were made monthly from a credit card denominated in US dollars, you will need a credit card denominated in Canadian dollars if you change your "billing currency" into Cdn$.
