Good day,
I'm seeing different responses to the question above, so I'm uncertain about which one is accurate.
I have a few items that are manufactured in India, the high tariffs of 50% is detering me from shipping them to the United States. I would like to confirm before I list.
Thanks in advance.
First.
Never decide for your customer what they can afford.
They saw the cost and they bought it.
While buyers do prefer low shipping, either they want it enough to pay or they don't.
Have faith in your product.
Unfortunately the hoops we have to jump thtough to ship to the USA, still the largest single economy in the world*, have made our job harder.
And yes, having spent the evening setting up listings on my eBay Canada account, we are told that if we don't put in the Country of Origin the listing will not be shown in the USA.
*Although the European Union is actually larger as a group economy.
The 50% tariff USA applied on goods made in India that went into effect latter August includes clothing so I suspect if the country of origin is NOT stated on the applicable customs forms, the package would be opened for inspection and/or rejected at the border....so while it may be important for persons viewing items online to pre-see country of origin...it is also most important that the item be properly and accurately described on the paperwork for exporting from Canada.
If you don't want to ship to the USA , but do want other Western customers, list here on dotCA or on the UK site, or on eBayIreland.
The Irish site is in euros and English, the UK site in sterling. The Canadian site is in Canadian dollars
Then, when choosing internationa destinations, just don't make the USA one of those destinations.
You can't do that on the dotCOM (USA) site, but you can on any other.
Thecustomer sees the price in their own currency as well as the currency of listing.
If you do not offer a shipping price to a given country, customers in that country will not see the listing.
But again, why are you deciding for the customer what they can afford?
They will see their cost before purchase and if it is out of their budget, they will not complete the transaction.
And you will never see it.
I don't know if you have any listings that do not have Country of Origin information in the Item Specifics section of the listing right now, but when I try viewing all your listings through the link on this thread, the same number of listings (542) is available for me to view whether I've set my shipping location to a Canadian postal code or an American ZIP code.
