Insurance coverage on packages to USA?

I called the post office and didn’t get a clear answer. Canada Post website is hard to find anything on.
Post office thinks the maximum coverage for a package to the States might be only $500? And that for a camera lens it might count as “glass” and not be covered at all.
For those selling expensive things, what are your options? I don’t want to limit my market by only listing in Canada, and I have a couple of items that others have been selling for well over $500.

Courier services do not pick up here, I do not have an account, and a trip to some mailing depot would be literally an all day trip.

If you have sold something expensive to the States, what did you do?

You can only use UPS with flat rate or free shipping option. No option in conjunction to  calculator. Like FedEx. After you shipped you would just manually update tracking and carrier.

(Note: On dot ca...Not sure if it works any different if you are listing on dot com. Never tested)

Just tested on the CP website calculator. 2.25 for above 100.00 up to a limit of 1000. Damage claims have become more difficult to collect on. Best to pack super careful(overpack). Claims for lost or late not so dicey.
