Item hasn't been paid for, buyer wants to pick it up local and pay cash. Is this allowed?

I listed my item but did not select local pickup as an option. The person who purchased it is local and wants to pay cash. I'm a new seller and don't know if this works or how this works.

I've done it , and been paid in cash. That's not a problem.

It's been a while, because local pickup is very expensive for the seller. You have to be at the agreed spot at the agreed time with the product.

The buyer might show up around the agreed time with the money and may not want to haggle more on the price.

However, all I did after the handover of goods and money, was manually mark that the item had been delivered and that was the end of it.

The buyer is left hanging however, since he has no proof of payment.

EBay has recently set up a QR code service which allows you to accept cash (no fees!!) and the buyer to have proof of payment. The QR code is also your proof of delivery.

I'm not sure of the details because using the postal system is faster and more reliable than pickup.

Oh-- I just noticed your ID.

Women are in a particular situation with pickups. I would suggest that you agree to meet, if at all, in a coffee shop where you are known. Not at your house.
And not at the local police station. If there is one place where there are likely to be a lot of crooks, it's a police station.

I've done local pick up a few times (probably about 7 times) but the buyer must always pay in advance through eBay. You need to send them an invoice with "Local Pick-up" showing as shipping method and zero in the shipping amount.

Then tell the buyer  you can set up a time to come by as soon as the item is paid for. They won't have your exact address until you give it to them (only shows your city). If they try to persist just say it's against eBay's policy and you don't want to jeopardize your ability to sell here.

It is against eBay's policy to deal with payment outside of eBay, they need their fee and wouldn't get it if payment was done outside of the platform.

I really am not a fan of local pick up, I've not had a problem with people paying the invoice, the problem has been trying to set up a time to come by afterwards and they are too busy and don't get back to you for days. Or set up a time and change/cancel it last minute. They all worked out in the end though.

Good luck!
