Dear community.

I am interested in joining eBay to sell items on eBay. Internet is full of information about ecommerce, and how to start selling online. Oftentimes, they encourage you buy their course or tutorial in order to learn the ropes.  I need anyone's advice with great experience in this field on how to start this journey, and how to find suppliers to bring down the costs and risks involved. How to you personally get your items? Do you manufacture them or do you import them from a specific supplier? These are the questions that have occupied my mind.

Before you try selling on eBay, register for a Managed Payments account.

Without that, if you make a sale, eBay cannot transfer the payment to your chequing account.

People who offer "how to sell" courses are making their money on selling courses, not on selling stuff.

The hardest part of mail order-- and selling online is just mail order in a 21st century costume-- is shipping.

Bookmark that. Buy a digital scale and a tape measure. Use metric measurements.

Don't sell anything for less than the cost of shipping.

Before you start selling I recommend that you buy a few things first so that you have some feedback and so that you have an idea of how ebay works.  eBay does have a course for new sellers called eBay Academy.   It is probably slanted towards US sellers on .com but much of the information should relate to .ca as well.   https://academy.ebay.com/student/catalog

It can also be helpful to read these boards though keep in mind that people tend to write about negative experiences, not the positive ones.

As far as what to sell, I don't recommend using drop shippers as you have zero control over what they are sending. Plus, you are likely competing with lots of other sellers selling the identical item from the same supplier. It's best if you sell something that you are already interested in and familiar with. For example, if you collect somethng, you might want to start selling that.  As far as where to get your inventory, I know that some sellers get their inventory from thrift stores, garage sales etc but that depends on what you are selling. It's unlikey that sellers here are going to give you really specific information about their suppliers as you would be competing with them.

Hello,

reallynicestamps and pjcdn2005 told you the most importants things you need to know about selling on eBay, don't buy any courses keep this money to invest in your inventory. Make a few purchases first to get a few positives feedbacks, then start listing anything around you you don't use to get some sales and it will allow you to become familiar with listing and shipping methods ...

Good luck and enjoy selling on eBay.
