Seller ripped off by ebay and buyer

Hi ,
I’m a first time seller and sold a Chanel hand bag for 5100+100 for shipping. Buyer bought bag and I created tracking shipping label through eBay which did not have option to request signature for expedited international shipping. But had insurance option . I had purchased insurance and created the shipping tracking label through ebay and shipped . I shipped with original box bag and authenticity documents. Tracking showed delivered but buyer complaint that it was never received. I got picture of the Dilivery from post office but ebay didn’t even give me a chance to show that to them .they said no signature request then to bad for me. But there’s wasn’t that option when creating the label. They took money out of my account to pay back the buye and making me pay 747.48$ ontop of the item I lost(5200). How is that fair. Even I sold my bag I was already at loss cause of that Ridiculous fees I broke even selling that bag at 5100 then they deduct all this hidden fee. Which I didn’t know cause it stated free cause of a promotion for new sellers . I would have been ok if it was more fair . Seller half buyer half . The first few times I reach out to customer service by phone they assured me I was safe cause they looked at my account and said as long as the tracking showed delivered it was the buyer responsibility and I was safe . If I had know ebay are scammers and do not have anyone back and try to take you for what ever they can. A billion $ company . They are a joke. Do not trust them seller other platforms not there’s in total i lost 5900 with shipping fee when my bag cost to me was 5100item+ 100 buyer shipping fee+747.49ebay fee + 65$ Shipping label with insurance. I’m a single mom with 2 boys and with a disability I sold the bag cause I needed the money. This is the cruel they could do this to people . It’s messed up man . Don’t trust them !!!!!

I was already at loss cause of that Ridiculous fees I broke even selling that bag at 5100 then they deduct all this bs hidden fee. Which I didn’t know cause it stated free cause of a promotion for new sellers .

Free Listings are just what they say.

There is no charge for listing up to 250 items on eBay.

  • However, new and occasional sellers do have restrictions on the number and value of listings eBay will allow them.
  • This is meant as both a Buyer Protection against scams and naive sellers and a Seller Protection against scams and beginner's mistakes.

There are fees (Final Value Fees) on all sales and on shipping costs. The fees range from 0.05% to 14.55% depending on the category.

How did you think eBay makes its money?

The first few times I reach out to customer service by phone they assured me I was safe cause they looked at my account and said as long as the tracking showed delivered it was the buyer responsibility and I was safe .

Unfortunately, the phone reps do not work for eBay but for a subcontractor in Utah.

They are poorly trained and often give incorrect or partly incorrect advice.

Confirmation of Delivery is your protection as a Seller

BUT

there is a maximum value on that.

If the value of the purchase is over $650, eBay demands Signature Confirmation.

FWIW, with Covid the definition of Signature Confirmation has become looser.

When your chosen label would not allow Signature Confirmation, you should have stopped right there and reconsidered how you were going to ship.

For example, you could have chosen XpressPost International or PriorityPostInternational both of which include Signature Confirmation and $1000 insurance with the option to purchase more.

  • The cost is very high -- my test list gave me prices of $300-$450 for 90x60x10cm /2kg.

You can try appealing to REAL eBay workers through eBay's social media accounts.

Take your time and compose your complaint without vulgarity and with careful attention to the timeline.

The social media are all print-based, but while they are a bit slow, the employees are well-trained and have some authority.

And you get a transcript which allows you to review the Chat later to see if what you were told matches what you thought you were told.
