Currently there are approximately 14 million listings on Ebay.
Currently there are approximately 7.5 million listings on other auction sites that are .not Ebay
Interesting, ain't it?
Some administrators of other sites are reporting a "flood" of Ebay refugees arriving to register this week.
Ebay, you are king of the hill when it comes to online auctions. Well you are today anyway.
G'night

Meaningless....what's the sell through rate on these sites?
I know of one site which has about a million listings, from browsing I would estimate the sell through rate to be less than 1%.
Imagine if you only sold 1 out of every 100 items you listed on eBay? Even if there were no or VERY low fees, is it worth the time to post 100 items to make 1 sale?

It seems that the listings count on eBay have been steadily rising all night. It was down to 14.2 million but currently sits at 14.6 million. Where did those 400,000 listings come from in the middle of this immensely popular boycott/strike?
pffftttt! (the sound a balloon makes when the air escapes).
:^O
recped, you are exactly right. The reality of those other sites is similar to some poorly promoted trade shows I have attended over the years. A lot of sellers standing around whining to each other and waiting for the buyers to show. The success of eBay over the years has been the ability to generate traffic. I wonder what those other sites spend, if anything, on keyword purchases on the search engines?
A flood on many of those other sites equates to a dripping tap on eBay. Several of those other sites are actually showing declines this evening. The largest of them is reflecting less that one half percent of an increase. Some flood! ROFLMAO
Only two sites are really showing any significant gains (approx 15% and 5.5%) and another is brand new and (I suspect) may have dubious listing numbers. The balance are, for the most part, reflecting less than 1% gain or significant losses.
The numbers are there to see folks. When the 7 day listings end tomorrow from last weeks promotion we will really be able to see a more accurate eBay listing count. Moreover, we will be able to see the impact of the "boycott". It's not looking good for the spinners.

And by the way MEDVED, the site you recommended has Ebay at 13,946,000 listings this morning. Where did those 650,000 listings go overnight.
Is that the sound of a great big balloon, inflating??

While I would venture to guess that two factors come into play here...
1. 7 day listings from the sale have begun to end.
2. People held off listing yesterday as the lower listing prices begin today.

The notion that a "flood of eBay refugees" are registering at other sites seems to be extreme exaggeration (at best) and was inserted in an effort to lend credibility to the boycott cheerleader's contention that it was having a serious impact on the site. It certainly appears that nothing could be further from reality - much like the claim that it was his final post some time ago.:^O
