Betting money on Expresspost and I won

Mailed a parcel to Austria, cost me $126, guaranteed delivery date of yesterday. This is Canada Post. I call CP. They are going to refund the $126, after delivery, because it was not delivered on time.

Okay.

How much to give the customer? It was actually their Customs that delayed the parcel. The guarantee is for whom? I paid for what the customer gave me money for. I am actually not out anything. I already made my profit.

I am NOT keeping the whole amount as that is just wrong. I have already emailed the customer to inform them of this. They do not know how much I paid for delivery.

Opinions.

Hi mr.elmwood,

in my opinion, it depends on how much the buyer paid for shipping and how late the package was.

It would be fair to me to compensate the buyer for his prejudice in accordance with the above.

Keep what is left as a compensation for other transactions where you were out of pocket.

I think it's only fair to SHARE this bonus with the buyer to compensate for his wait but everything should be put in perspective.

My opinion for what it's worth...

"Opinions."

In my opinion, you should take the money, buy a decent bottle of scotch, I'll bring the ice cubes and we can celebrate!!!

A good bottle of wine  with a spectacular supper would be my choice

We should also take note that Expedited Parcel within Canada  is guaranteed!!!!!

Pierre is a whiskey drinker! Who knew! Perhaps I will split the ill gotten gains with the customer, invest the rest in whiskey, and visit Pierre.

Any package I have mailed to international always had the price paid for delivery on the CP sticker attached to the outside. I assumed buyer was fully aware of the shipping cost and was able to see the match with what he paid and the real cost. The one time I asked for money back because of late delivery,  CP or some other country had to contact the buyer to get full facts on delivery.  Thus buyer was aware of my request and because buyer had paid shipping, he was very pleased to get it all back.

The customer made an offer, shipping included, that I accepted. There was no specification of method or guarantee. Customer paid for shipping, not for Expresspost. That was my choice.

I will split the refund with the customer and perhaps toddle over to Pierre's house and we can tell lusty tales of ebay selling.

That's odd, I thought that according to eBay rules Best Offer was "officially" supposed to be only for the price of the item, not with the shipping included.  But maybe you had a different sort of offer...

I keep forgetting about Xpresspost on-time delivery guarantee.  Most of the time I'm just so flipping thrilled that the parcel actually reaches its destination in reasonable time that I rarely look at the actual number of days.  I sent a parcel to California on Jan. 7th via Xpresspost (like you, I chose to upgrade, as the buyer had only paid for Expedited).  When I checked the tracking today, the parcel hadn't even got out of Canada.

I'm going to take a look at the Xpresspost delivery time charts on the CP site and hold their feet to the fire on this one!

Thanks for the reminder 'Mr. E' !  I like whiskey, but my preference is a good cognac or a really good port.

Check tracking on USPS to confirm where that parcel is.

as to Best offer.

People have made offers..... that offer can be for the item only,  or it could be for item plus shipping.

In turn, sometimes my counteroffer has been for the price, with shipping included....

But maybe you had a different sort of offer...

I was using phraseology. I had a large assembly for sale. I was thinking of splitting it up into parts anyway. Fella in Austria make an offer on half that was too good to refuse. This was on a BIN that I had not split up.

I agreed. Split the assembly into two parts and immediately sold the other half. I mean, within hours. Customer in Austria came through with the payment and due to size and weight, my choices were either Expresspost or surface parcel. I laughed as well. Customer's offer left me with a meagre 2307% (two thousand three hundred and seven) profit after I paid Expresspost.

Customer knows nothing about the shipping aspect. I am fairly certain the customer has bought this for re-sale for a customer of theirs. They are turning around and marking up. I don't care. I paid for something I did not get, guaranteed delivery date. I did, however, pay for airmail delivery and I am getting that. Customer IS getting what they paid for, airmail delivery to their address.

Do I keep all the money and make the profit 3461%? No.

Customer and I are both getting what we paid for. PO messed up by guaranteeing.
