Has anyone ever had something like this happen? A USA buyer (with over 3,000 positive feedback) purchases from a listing in CAD and then asks me to send him an invoice in USD. I told him I can't send an invoice for USD. Then he asks me to send him invoice so he can pay. So I send another one through eBay and he just ends up sending a separate payment, not tied to the eBay purchase, in USD. The total cost of the purchase with shipping is $4.50, so I don't use tracking.

"I told him I can't send an invoice for USD'
Actually, it is possible to send an invoice in a different currency than the listing by using the PayPal "send an invoice" link.
It will not be linked directly to the eBay listings but will satisfy the buyer.
Most Americans prefer to pay in US$, the only currency they know and understand. That is why most Canadian sellers list on eBay.com or in US$ if listing on eBay.ca.

Thanks for the info. It annoys me because it's a cheap way for a buyer to try and pay less for what they agreed too.
It's too hard with my profit margin to sell in USD with the currency up and down, plus the 2.5% PayPal takes.

You could have sent an invoice through paypal in U.S.$ with the correct conversion from Canadian funds. You wouldn't necessarily have to take the U.S. $ at par although I would probably do it at par unless it was a large amount.

Depending on the previous communciation, I would:
1) accept it
or if frustrated with buyer
2) file UID and ignore the loose payment until buyer requests it back and then return it excluding $0.30 PayPal fee :^O
