Hi all,
Just ran into this today. We sent a package to New York State on Oct 26th. The customer has yet to recieve it as of Nov 28th so I call Canada Post to file a claim for a missing small packet. They inform me that I would have to wait 75 Days before filing a claim! That is the unacceptable! I have had small packets go astray before and filed a claim earlier than that.
What was strange about this is I actually had two claims to make one for a damaged small packet and one for this lost one. Both were sent about the same time. They had no problem processing the claim of a damaged item but for a lost one no way. So my advice to all is to never claim a package is lost. Claim it as damaged and you will get the claim processed faster without a hassle. Good luck all

Unless they changed the rule recently someone gave you the wrong information. I sent a package to NC on Sept 7th and after 4 weeks I called CP and they told me I had to wait 45 days before making a claim. I made my claim Oct. 23rd (45 days later) and it was processed. Now I just have to wait to be paid. I'll let you know when that happens.

The waiting period varies depending on the destination of the package.
International destinations: 75 days
USA destinations: 45 days
Canada: 15 to 30 depending on service level
They want to make sure the item is not "stuck" somewhere before they pay you money. I have seen International packages come back after 90 days so I can understand the reasoning behind the policy. Have to admit itès annoying though...

You probably spoke to the same clerk that I had who told me the same thing... Wait 75 days before claiming for a parcel that I mailed from Ontario to Michigan. I called back a few days later and got a different clerk who issued the refund right away. So try again and hopefully get a nice clerk.
Bill.
