I am considering using a drop shipper for my new fine Jewelry I want to sell. Is there anyone in Canada or USA that has used a drop shipper and what was your experience. Thanks Powderpuff888

I've tried it... here are my thoughts:

1) Far too US-centric. If that is your market, that's good, but I like to stay in Canada.

2) Shipping to and from the US is a bonus, but I found that getting tracking and help from the drop shipper was a pain... they seemed so busy all the time, and would only answer emails 24-48 hours later... I like to provide my customers with better service than that.

3) You can't actually see the item before you ship it... if a seller asks you a question, what do you say?

4) Inventory is hit and miss.

5) If you're selling it, there are probably 30 others on eBay doing the same.. and you can never seem to make your prices as low as theirs...

Overall, it's an interesting venture. You need the right product at the right time at the right price...

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your reply. I am finding it hard to get suppliers. When I mention my shops are ecommerce and not brick and mortar they close the door on me. I sell world wide and the USA counts for 95% of my business. I guess maybe seeking out Artisans would be a better option.

Do you have a provincial reseller's liscense and a GST number?

I NEVER drop-ship, I won't risk my reputation and FB on someone else's service, but I have NEVER had a supplier close the door on me and I have let them all know that I am strictly e-commerce.

Hi Monique,

I have to try more suppliers. Some suppliers that I have contacted even have written right in their terms no ebay sellers will be supplied. I do have a resellers liscense and tax numbers I am a registered business with the Province of BC. I like controlling my parcels also and shipping. I am concerned about my reputation and I do not want to put that into someone elses hands. I guess I need to find a Jewelry Wholesaler in Canada that will do buisness with me. If you know of one let me know.

Thanks
Leah

Leah,

Stick with the small suppliers of unique items. The stuff provided by the big guys will have to much competition on ebay anyway. You need to sell unique products that people can't find elsewhere in order to make a go of it on ebay. The small wholesalers really don't care where you are selling your stuff.
