Maybe this is old news here. I came across an article a couple of days ago in the Wall Street Journal about PayPal gearing up for a fight with Google's new GBuy.
I have not been able to find out any real information about GBuy - anyone else have any details to share?
All I do know is that it appears (to me) that eBay's recent "Safe Payment Policy" was the first counter move to keep GBay off of eBay.
The phrase that states; "Finally, sellers may not request payment through online payment methods not specifically permitted in this policy." is a fairly wide sweeping statement. I suspect that when GBuy does launch that it will not be permitted here on eBay.
I've seen a few threads here and there about Google working towards creating the "next eBay". Gotta' wonder if this is their first step, what else these guys have up their sleeves and will it even really impact eBay?

You can look all you want but if eBay doesn't approve them as a payment method you can't use them. :(
People people please stop passing off speculation as facts.

If you mean BidPay this was a screw up by eBay, they removed BidPay as an approved payment method only because it closed down. If you mean WU wire transfers Western Union can only "prove" that someone picked up the money but not specifically who.
There are a number of payment systems that can offer varying degrees of "proof" but still they are banned by eBay just as anything Google comes out with will be until and unless enough sellers (and buyers) insist on it's approval.
From what I have read about Gbuy it is not at all like PayPal, from the initial descriptions it would seem like it would only work for sellers who have their own merchant accounts. Like I said, the details at point in time are very sketchy.

I cannot find any real information about GBuy - a few articles here and there mostly to do with PayPal's reaction rather than details about how GBuy will actually work.

eBay can ban what ever they want - people will still use whatever they want - they just won't be able to list it. The last few things I have purchased, the seller has noted in the invoice that they accept other payment methods (WU, Cash, Hyperwallet, etc).
I'm not sure that I agree with recped that eBay will be forced to allow GBuy on eBay if enough buyers and sellers lobby for it's use - like I said, I think that GBuy may be one of the underlying reasons for the recent Safe Payments Policy in the first place. But that's just my opinion.
