I don't see a method to report this to ebay: two listings from two discrete sellers, selling the identical item with identical photos.

Contact me if you want the listing numbers.

'Stock Photo'

Seller may have more than one user name & store.

Seller may have multiples.

There are a number of reasons for this discrepancy.

Hello 'phart'  😄

'hereiam' is right, - there could be loads of reasons for identical items.  Many sellers from Hong Kong sell the exact same rubbish and they all use stock photos.  It is perfectly permissible because after all, they can't rephoto each one, can they.

If, however, you see a one-of-a-kind item, a vintage piece where there's the same chunk out of the corner in each listing, that sort of thing, - that's different.  A seller is not supposed to list one item on multiple IDs.  What if 2 people buy it at the same time?

It happens, however.  And if you wait for swift action from ebay, you'll wait a long time.  Cynicism aside, if you are convinced that there is only one of these, you'll find a Report item link on every listing.  In this case I'd say choose 'Listing practices', then 'Duplicate listing', then 'auction' or 'fixed'.  Do that, and you've done all you can.

On the other hand, if you get worked up about it, irritating though it is, you'll be on blood-pressure meds before time. 🙂

Thanks guys, but wow there's an assumption here that's unflattering... not sure what to say, maybe most folks here ain't that bright or self-reliant. 😄

Anyway, they ain't stock photos and I already tried dmil's suggestion of "Report item" but the ebay system only allows you to enter duplicate listings from the *same* seller, not the listings of more than one *discrete* seller. Hence my question.  It is a vintage item, and the seller is using the identical non-stock photos in both listings.

It strikes me as a scam, but I won't lose any sleep over it,

Cheers,

p

Hi again, 'phart',

Yeah, I suppose some folks ain't that bright.  Go figure.

If you report the listing, - why not report each listing?  I know there is no place to tell ebay "this, this, and this all look the same to me".  As I say, sellers are not supposed to list a one-of-a-kind under multiple IDs.  But I've also seen it happen sooo many times.  I don't know why they do it, not when all 3 listings appear in a close proximity in Search.

I do not believe it is a scam, merely some seller imagines it will increase the chance her item gets sold.  I guess the instant someone buys one, she will hastily remove the other listings.  But again, what if 2 people simultaneously buy it in the middle of the night when she's sleeping?

Anyway, if you want to see ebay's policy on product availability:

Is it possible,

That I, as a person cruzing eBay, come across an item I have, and on that listing page(I think), there is an icon that says something like 'Sell one like this'....Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can answer this....I totally boost their ad, enter in my contact info, and viola, I have a ready made ad (lazy be I) though I could see how this scenario could have went (In my own rationalized ramblings). Um I not sure that made sense, so I leave you with the question...

Why do some pics in ads have  a Watermark/Photomark?

I think its for proprietary interests,

and takes care of your issue of duplicates as well.

Then again,

I'm only a Buyer.

Not a Seller.

You're not allowed to totally boost their ad. 🙂  And you're right, the watermarks are a proprietary thing.  Here's the blurb about how to do it if you want to see:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/pictures.html#adding

Because if you boosted someone's photos and he spotted it, he would click the Report item button, choose 'Copyright and Trademark', then "Images and text copied from your lisiting', then 'Copied pictures or text', and then send the report of it to ebay.  It would be a violation, and no one wants to get cited for one of those.
