I was given a Global tracking number that was fake?

I paid 50.00 for magazines on the November 12. On  the 27th of November, I was emailed a tracking number through ebay for the Global Shipping Program. I am a first time buyer, unfamiliar with the 45 day refund rule (by the time I looked it up it was 47 days)and the seller had asked for extended shipping time. I never received my item and when I contacted ebay customer support, I found out that the seller hadn't used the Global Shipping Program to ship. Was the number was a fake??  I was refunded the money for my shipping. The seller, who refused to answer my email, closed her account and I am out thirty dollars. She had been a member for 10 years.I will never buy another item off of ebay. It has been one big headache for me. It seems too easy for dishonest people to flourish. I have heard of a scam overseas involving slow shipping. 45 days to open a claim is not long enough.

How did you pay for your purchase?

If you used a credit card through PayPal, call your credit card issuer (bank) at the toll free number shown on your credit card statement and ask for a chargeback.

Usually, it is no problem if you ask within 2 months.  Now three months may still work.  It depends on the agent you talk to.

Good Luck.

I paid through pay pal, using my bank account, no credit card.

If a credit card was not used, there is no way to recover your money at this point unless the seller agrees to refund you.

Have you contacted the seller?  Have you tried the telephone?

"Was the number was a fake??"

There is no way to know.  Did you check the "tracking" number with USPS.com ?

Pierre, the buyer may be referring to the tracking number generated by the Global Shipping Program itself.  From what I can figure out from my purchase, this is generated at the same time the seller enters the tracking information for the shipment's journey to the Global Shipping Center into the eBay system, be it USPS, UPS, or whatever shipping method the seller is using for the first leg of the item's journey.

The shipping number I was given is untraceable either through USPS or Global Shipping Program. E bay support gave me  my shipping charges back because I had paid for Global Shipping and the seller didn't use it. At least I recovered some of my money.Smiley Happy Twenty bucks. Thank you for explaining how important the 45 day rule is to newbies like me.
