Re: June 12th Weekly Board Hour

With that said, in itself, leaving positive FB withy low DSRs does not constitute, in itself, a violation of the Buyer Abuse policy.

I don't understand that... in itself, 1 out of 5 is NOT positive to me! ?:|

Hello I'm still here,

This is browser issue, I would try either updating your browser or trying another company. I personally use Chrome and it drops me back to the same location on the page by either click the link back to search or using my back button.

Hope that helps,

Bryan

OK....... but the problem is unique to ebay.

All other venues are fine for me and never a problem.

That's why I concluded it's an ebay issue rather than something else.

Re: June 12th Weekly Board Hour

Another question, if I may, on the subject of GSP.

eBay staffers are also eBay buyers. 🙂

Have any of you in the Toronto office actually made an eBay purchase from American sellers offering GSP?

What was your experience? Was it faster? Was it more expensive? Was the cost of tax(es) properly broken down? Did Pitney Bowes provide you with their GST/HST or business registration number as required by Canadian law?

Finally, having gone through the experience, would you do it again?

Another question relating to the Global Shipping Program:

The announcement about the GSP, and the Help pages about it, say that sellers can "opt out" of the program if they don't want to continue using it.

However in practice, once a seller has opted in, there is no option available to opt out. If you search, you can find instructions that tell you how to disable the GSP on a particular listing, which is not the same thing as "opting out" at all.

Why isn't there a way to opt out of the GSP completely, as the announcement and documentation say should be possible? Is this a glitch, and if so, when will it be fixed?

Can you Google "Whats my browser" and find a service that outputs your browser and settings and paste it into this window. We can take it back to the team. If it provides the IP please remove that from the post.

Re: June 12th Weekly Board Hour

A few days ago, we had a thread with an opening post reading

"A buyer opened an ebay case against me for item not received on the 46th day. I thought it has always been a 45 day policy."

And yes, the claim was opened well over the 45 day time limit from time of payment.

Could you please take a few minutes and explain in details when a seller can actually be submitted to a claim after the 45days spelled out in the protection policy.

Why the exception?  Who authorizes it?  On what basis?

Do sellers have any control over the 45 day limit?

The only way a case can be opened after 45 days following the payment date is under eBay Buyer Protection (ie. if the item was purchased from eBay.com) and only by an eBP agent. This is only available to buyers as a one time courtesy and the situation must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for this courtesy. For example, a cross-border transaction for which the item is still in transit may be allowed to override the 45 days period if all other criteria are met.

This is only to allow the buyer to seek resolution should a problem arise once the item is delivered. There is no harm brought to the seller's performance as long as the case is closed with satisfaction for the buyer.

Example questions about no opt-out available for sellers enrolled in GSP:

Example: no option to edit, change or opt out for the GSP:

Hey there! Thanks for all the time and input so far!

I believe I orginally signed up on .com years ago, and was a buyer,  but as of the other year I went thru the steps to sell on .ca. Since that time I have  had learning curves and all, and have surpassed the "new seller" limitations and 21 day paypal funds hold. In my 50 free listings on .ca I also sell to the US, and get the .com exposure for those ads.  I am wanting to also list other ads on.com to utilize the additional 50 free from there as well (under this same ID)

My question is, if I have items listed on .com and they sell, will the funds be available right away, or will I be treated like a new seller on .com even though on  .ca I have surpassed that?  if there is a hold, is it just .com items, or is it all items under this ID?

 Thank you for your time!

Hello hoppy24,

The seller limits are based on your account history, not according to your history on each respective site. If you have enough seller experience to move away from the payment holds, you will enjoy the same status when you start listing on eBay.com.

Best of luck with your sales!

Re: June 12th Weekly Board Hour

Good afternoon.

I would like to follow-up on the questions I raised last week about eBay’s Global Shipping Program (GSP).

As stated, eBay does not provide a breakdown of the so-called “import charges”.  Often, the number does not seem to make sense based on what buyers know about applicable taxes.

Why can’t eBay provide a detailed breakdown of those “estimated import charges”?  How much of it is actually calculated for duty (if applicable)?  For taxes (GST/HST/PST) if applicable? Handling fee?  Brokerage fee? Additional shipping charge (from PB distribution centre to buyer)? Etc…

Also, have you considered opening a discussion board manned by Pitney Bowes personnel to answer questions on their program?  This was done by eBay way back in 1999/2000 for PayPal well before eBay purchased the payment system. PayPal staff was allowed access to eBay’s board to answer technical and policy questions.

A question that keeps coming back is: how do Canadian buyers get their PB “import charges” refunded if the transaction is cancelled? The seller refunds the purchase price,  that is easy.  However, how do Canadian buyers get their money back from PB? Similar question: how do Canadian buyers get their duty and taxes refunded should the goods be returned to seller in the USA?

I'm still waiting for an answer from my US colleague Pierre, I'll post the answers here when I have them and notify you via email.

Hi lacemaker3,

The steps to opt out of the program is the same as opting in - so you'd just select the off option. Most features which offer the option to be included or not usually use the same steps to opt in or out - the only difference is choosing the reversed option 🙂
