I'm informed by a reliable, mutual friend that my buyer died suddenly and unexpectedly. I don't see any way to let eBay know that - it's not one of the list of reasons for filing a UID. He's obviously not going to reply to eBay's email if I file a mutually agreed. Any ideas on the most efficient way to handle this?
Thanks, Glenda

Glenda, I was starting to type out how it odesnt matter how you record the cancelation when the old brain kicked in.
I just remembered that your buyer has to acknowledge the mutual cancelation notice they get from eBay.
I guess just send eBay an email.
Last but not least, you can report that the contact information is not valid as the buyer no longer lives ... there or anywhere!
Sorry for a poor attempt at humour.
Malcolm

Actually the last mutual cancellation I filed, the buyer never did acknowledge the mutual agreement despite several e-mails being sent to her, but I was able to get the FVF on day 8. The buyer ended up with a strike on her account but she didn't seem to care.
Under these circumstances a UID could be filed under the buyer not responding reason (which is true) unless the account can be accessed by the deceased's friend in which case if they do care about a strike on the account they can agree to do a mutual UID.
Ernie.

ERnie, that's part of my problem -- the friend does have acces to the deceased's account. I suppose the logical thing is really to email him and aak him what he suggests. I hate to besmirch the name of a really good buyer with any kind of a strike (he's one of the reasons I'm stil coloured turquoise in spite of over 2000 positives and no negs)
Malcolm --"I guess just send eBay an email". Any suggestions on how to send eBay an email?
I am SO UHHAPPY about not being able to access the .com PS Portal page with the link to the .com PS support. When we list on .com, our store is on .com and our problem is with .com, WHY can we only get help from PS Support at .ca??!! It's irrelevant!!! All they've ever told me is to list on .ca -- NOT AN OPTION!
(does that qualify as a RANT?) Glenda

Glenda:
If the friend has access to the account and intends to continue using it then they might agree to the mutual UID.
What about the "Live Help" link on the .ca page (or even the .com page for that matter). I used it once and actually was passed on to an eBay rep who did help me for an out-of-the-ordinary matter that occurred last year. I think this counts as an out-of-the-ordinary type of problem. Matters of death do tend to get action that is normally hard to get.
The other option, I guess, if you don't want to put a strike on the account or seem petty about a matter of money at this sensitive time is to just eat the FVF, a final offering of respect to the deceased, in thanks for his business?
Cheers,
Ernie.

Not trying to make light of the situation, but I had a brother of a buyer email me to say he had been killed in a car accident and of course wont be sending payment. A few days later the deceased was back buying and selling.
Since then I never criticize the Canadian Health Care System.

Ernie, that's kind of way I've been leaning - it isn't a huge dollar amount and he was a good customer.
Wow! Rik -- and I thought my doctor was good! Actually, having read the boards long enough to become cynical, I checked his ID -- no activity since the report of his demise.
Off topic, much as I hate to admit it to the rest of Canada, we actually got snow today in Victoria! And on our golf day too!! Good thing we snuck in a round yesterday.
