New Canada Post Rates

As per the information from eBay an item 0g to 250g will cost $13.00 for the new Tracked Packet USA or $15.33 Expedited.  Does anyone know if the discount will still be available for labels printed online?  If so, wouldn't Expedited be cheaper?  Maybe I'm just having a seniors moment.  I asked at our Post Office but I seem to know more than they do which is a little scary.   ?:|

Tracked Packet, with insurance and tracking,  costs a few dollars more than Small Packet Air, with no insurance or tracking

Cumos,

What have you been smoking?

Comparison of 2013 rates to the UK:

Weight               SPAir        TP

0-250 g             9.10           39.81

251-500 g         18.20          42.45

501-1000 g        35.69          51.99

1001-1500 g       44.66         57.70

1501-2000 g       53.63         64.08

The only case where the TP rate is only "a few dollars more" than SP Air is a package weighing 501 to 1000 g to USA: $17.54 vs $15.56.

Re: New Canada Post Rates

Tom....... I agree with most of what you've posted but it's not that simple.

I'd like to add that a lot of claims for items not received are due to the fact that the item received was not as described.

When that happens it's a very difficult situation for a buyer. First, there is the prospect of dealing with sellers and most are are downright horrid in those situations.

Then when they file a case they are then forced to spend a lot of money to ship garbage with tracking.

Re: New Canada Post Rates

That is something I've been trying to get information about for a long time.

toby........ (are there one or two posters id.ed toby?) once reported that he collected several times, but otherwise I haven't been able to find anything on it.

To file a clima the buyer has to sign a form and I'm not so sure how well that would go with some Russian lady who speaks no English.

shipsurance does not require a signed affidavit for low cost items. Proof of item not received can be the emails to/from the buyer.

When I used inkFrog, insurance was provided by shipsurance for inkFrog users. The inkFrog forums had occasional discussions on shipsurance and filing claims.  shipsurance representatives would often post in the inkFrog forums to clarify their policies. It was mentioned that they did not require signed affidavits for low cost items or when the buyer was not cooperative. emails to and from the buyer were sufficient proof.

The process of claims using inkFrog was relatively smooth. However, inkFrog users were a very big customer of shipsurance.  When buying a one time insurance for an item from shipsurance, the claim process might be harder.

As with any insurance, make too many claims and the insurer will not insure you as you are high risk.

Re: New Canada Post Rates

I am focused on the 500 grams to 2.0 kg range  for international shipping....

Heavy weight books,  that cost up to $100 and more.

and for me International Parcel Surface looks good....  price wise  for a start....  and then insurance ... and finally tracking.

Tracked Packet is the major comparison...  No way I would ship something outside of North America without insurance.....

Small Packet Air is dead for me.....

I*m-still-here,

How can you insure parcels against SNAD claims? Or by "not as described" do you mean damaged in transit? If so, how often does that happen? And if it is common, then surely the answer is better packing.

As to your last sentence, I don't understand what you're getting at.

Cumos,

Does it now? You're easy to please. Canada Post must love you.

Let's look at those good-looking rates, taking the UK and Australia as examples of destinations. SPS = Small Packet Surface; SPA = Small Packet Air; IPS = International Parcel Surface. (IPS rates do not include fuel surcharge).

Weight              SPS     SPA    IPS

UK

501g-1000g        16.80   35.69  35.61

1501g-2000g       23.56   53.63  39.83

Australia

501g-1000g         17.90   38.78  39.43

1501g-2000g       26.24   58.87  44.33

And Small Packet Air is "dead" for you, is it? All because it doesn't include insurance and doesn't have "tracking"? With delivery times measured in months and rates higher than (with the fuel surcharge) to one-third cheaper than SPA and double to nearly double SPS rates, you'd still go for IPS - because it has insurance and "tracking"?

Gawd help us.

Re: New Canada Post Rates

Tom, you stated:

"""I am convinced a large number, perhaps even a majority, of insurance claims by eBayers result from fraudulent declarations of non-receipt by dishonest buyers. """"

I was agreeing with your post but responding to the comment above.

I agree that most insurance claims are fraudulent, but IMO the dishonesty often (or usually)  occurs at the source (the seller).

A lot of buyers feel stuck between a rock and a hard place when they open a package and see that they just paid good money for garbage.

I'm convinced that a lot of buyers claim the item never arrived rather than fight with sellers about returns and pay for shipping with tracking to send the garbage back.

I have never done that and have others ways of dealing with the problem which are 100% legit.......... but I get it.

I am so tired of US sellers claiming that Canadian buyers are problematic.

IMO the real problem is at the source with sellers shipping garbage.

I'd be willing to bet that there is strong correlation between quality of item and claims that the item did not arrive and a weak relationship between item cost and claims of non-arrival.

Re: New Canada Post Rates

International shipping has been cut back to just a few European countries.... Surface mail arrives within 6 to 7 weeks....

International shipping is not as big today as it was a few years ago.

Over the past 12 months I have had two buyers  ask for fast airmail  International shipping...  They chose to pay the price.

I am not prepared to ship outside North America without insurance.

Whatever one chooses depends very much on what one sells....    and the price of what one sells....

Also recent international sales have been in the range of $50  to $195.

Re: New Canada Post Rates

Many Canadian sellers are TRS without tracking.

With the Tracked Packet option...  will 90 % tracking eventually become a requirement for TRS on eBay.ca?????

With Tracked Packet USA I am one small step away from 90 % tracking...  and know how to take that last step if needed...

and then TRS Plus on eBay.com..

Time will tell!!

Re: New Canada Post Rates

Here is what I was told by Shipsurance and you can take it for what it is worth

Thank you for contacting Shipsurance. Exceptions are sometimes granted when the buyer is not cooperative; however, this depends on a few factors such as the amount of the claim (usually under $100), the time of the dispute and of the refund (which must be reasonably close to 45 days), and whether or not the buyer has a claim history. Of course, the affidavit would be absolutely required for items of higher value. Each claim is handled on a case by case basis with regards to situations such as this.

This one thinks anyone who buys "shipping insurance' is completely out of their mind.  They will happily pay out claims as longs as its giving you back part of the money you give them.  As soon as it isn't like that there will be a problem

Paying CP's absurd premium for "insured" services is even worse with the extra they want.  Even if CP just pays wthout going by their tos (Lowest of...replacement cost, actual cost..).  Just inconceivable to me anyone thinks they will ever be ahead by buying shipping insurance..  At least people who throw their money away in slot machines get some entertainment value from it.
