Lots of assumptions here.
I have 100% feedback, 5.0 DSRs across the board, TRS status, and was NOT invited.
eBay has never claimed it was "random". That assumption may have been made by posters. eBay has never given public information as to how some sellers are invited to some promotions and not to others while some seem to always get invited and others seem to never be (it is possible that some customer service reps may have used the "random" excuse when pressed by unhappy seller complaining about not getting invited). I do not expect eBay to ever let that cat out of the bag.
Personally, it seems I get an invitation for two of three promotions. That's good enough.
As far as always having "free listing" if you think about it you will quickly realize it would not work. Too many low priced items would be listed by sellers not willing to spend a few cents for listing because the items are not worth it and/or have little chance of selling. To increase the number of listings will not make things better for eBay sellers. At this time you spend a few dollars every month for a "store" giving rights to so many "free listings". To extend that privilege to unlimited quantity for non-paying sellers would only bring more competition without additional buyers.
We do not need more listings, we need more qualified buyers with money to spend!
Free listings seem to work for many other sites, including the River, Bonza, Ioff, and ebid there are at least 17 sites that all offer Free listings........but none have the buyers or traffic that Ebay except the River.
