It is cheaper as you receive a discount for using PayPal shipping that you don't receive if you mail the package from the post office. Here is where to go.

Some services are cheaper when you use paypal shipping but not all of them. The services that are discounted are Expedited parcel USA and Expedited parcel within Canada. Xpresspost also has a discount although it is less than the one on expedited.

Here's the canada post page about PayPal shipping. It says 9 % discount.

On Expedited shipping, which includes up to $100 insurance against loss or damage in transit, plus Delivery Confirmation, the discount is 20-25% off the PO counter price.

In addition, there are discounts on other services, roughly the same as you would get at the PO counter with your VentureONE card (which is free and worth getting at canadapost.ca)

Possibly more useful is that the PP labels have an invoice number which, depending on the service, may also be an insurance or a Delivery Confirmation or even a tracking number. This is something that can be used to reassure buyers that postage has been purchased and parcels sent.

So some of the value is just in the format itself- like yellow labels at WalMart that convince customers that their prices are low.
