do you have to wait till the buyer gets the product before paid? or are the funds secured and held?

I am selling jewelry for someone else, and was wondering if you had to wait until the buyer receives their product to get funds? The person I am selling for stated to get the money first and then ship...I guess I want to know if someone buys something for say $1500 are those funds secured through my PayPal account regardless? I'm just not sure how to proceed...

Do NOT repeat do NOT attempt to sell for someone else when you are so unaware of how online selling and above all eBay works.

Tell your friend to sell her item herself.

This is a recipe for an expensive disaster.

Generally, the buyer pays and you ship.
For an expensive item (over $250 including postage) you are required to use an electronically trackable and signature confirmed service.

Many shippers, including Canada Post, will not insure shipments of jewelry against loss in transit.

Buyers have several ways of protecting their investment, through the Paypal claim system. Which is good, and makes for a more trustworthy marketplace, but can really mess up a naive newbie.

Paypal will hold the buyer's payment against the seller's good service for 21 days. During that time the seller is expected to ship the item, although she has not received any payment herself. The shipping cost can be taken from the payment. The seller must ship within seven days. The item must arrive within 45 days, although many buyers will get upset after two weeks if they don't have the item.

And that's the simplest overview.

Tell your friend to list it herself.

Seriously, don't get involved with this deal.

As advised, let your friend sell their own items on ebay. You're new to selling and don't know any more than they do. Let them learn the ebay selling ropes for themselves. If something goes wrong with a sale under your name, it will be you who gets the negative feedback and with zero feedback now, any negative feedback would be disasterous.

Non payers should get unpaid item strikes and be added to block bidders lists. Period.
