Partial Payment - What would you do?

Hello, here's one for you. I had an item that sold to a buyer in Canada. My invoice was for $49.72 USD. Buyer reports he will pay by Money Order. All's good so far. A couple days later he tells me he made a mistake and the money order was only made out for $44.00 USD and asks if he can make up the difference by winning another of my auctions that were currently being listed. I wrote him back, sure no problem but if you don't win anything, I'll wait 5 days before beginning a non-payment dispute for my own protection. Two days later, the money order arrives for $44.00 USD - we're still short $5.72. He doesn't win any of the current listings (doesn't even bid for that matter). Can I still initiate the Non-Payment Dispute if he did make a partial payment, send him the money order back (I'll likely need to do Xpresspost with Signature or he'll complain that I kept the money order) or should I just eat the $5.72, send him the item and block him. Any suggestions?

Partial Payment - What would you do?

Hi,
I would send him a notice thanking him for his partial payment and that I will need the other $5.72 before I could ship. I would also ask when I could expect this payment. Then thank him for the business. Then wait. I would also hold his MO for a while and wait for the remainder and wait till he completed payment before I would ship. Your not out anything but fees and you have his MO.

Tell the buyer to mail you the money order along with $5 cash (or $10 cash and you'll send change with their order).

Interesting situation.

IMO it all depends on how much trouble you want to go into for $5.72. I don't think it's illegal to mail cash in Canada, so ask him to mail the difference like recped said, because asking for a money order for $6 is just not worth the banking fee he would pay. There is 90% chance he would admit his mistake and send you the difference.

Sometimes I even extend the good will and say - you will add the ($1, $2, ...) to your next order. Worked fine so far.

If he resists a lot and does not want to admit his mistake, complete the transaction eat the $6 and blacklist him.

Buyer in question already acknowledged they made a mistake.
