I brought the following up at last week's session, as well as on the Fall Seller Update discussion, but have not seen any specific answers to these very worrisome questions.

Have you received any word yet on what precisely what will constitute a "private user code" (i.e. substitute for a UPC) for items that are antique, vintage, one of a kind or hand-made/custom-designed?  Or whether eBay can make "EXEMPT" (or "NOT APPLICABLE") an option for such items?

Secondly, and even more importantly, if either a user-generated code or an 'EXEMPT' entry will be accepted, will it be given strict equivalency by eBay in terms of search visibility, placement, etc. to a standard UPC code?  Put another way, will eBay assure sellers that a user-generated or "EXEMPT" entry will not be disadvantageous (or even neutral)?

For me, and I'm sure for many sellers of items that are not mass-produced, this is a very serious issue.  If it isn't dealt with before the UPC codes become mandatory, it will end up instantly creating a whole 2nd-class category of listings on eBay.  Is that what eBay wants -- to immediately downgrade  those of us who are offering unique items that can't be found elsewhere?  I'm beginning to feel the steel-toed boot of eBay on my posterior...

Hi rose-dee,

The Structured Data team said they would release all this additional information. So far, I haven't seen anything from them. I will relay anything I learn as I learn it; they should also publish this information at large. Stay tuned.

I hope you are right .I got an offer only once when we started last year and we were not ready yet for big deals .Well year after there is no invitation and less promotions. And this US sellers with all the charges to Canadian in the end are not such a deal.Just saying......

I assure you I am right. If you've already been in touch with the Deals team, why not simply reach out to them again?
