September 9thy 2015 Weekly Session

Hello Canadian eBayers,

This is our weekly session. The thread will remain open for most of the day. Please start posting at your convenience and I'll come in & out to respond.

Issues/bugs still tracked:

  • Full shipping FVF charged on combined orders with discounted shipping (dutchman48)
  • SYI form stripping the weight off when switching back to USD on an item that was originally in USD and set up with calculated shipping (block36)
  • SYI preventing relist and Sell Similar if the original listing had a non compliant photo (pierrelebel)
  • Notifications reappearing in the header (pocomocomputing)
  • UPC codes suddenly not recognized on live listings (mjwl2006)
  • Listings allowed to go live without a photo (rose-dee)

When will the eBay/PayPal split notification at the top of the page go away when I go to the sites? I have to X it out every time. How many more months will it show?

I do clean my cookies after each internet session so if having read the notice is kept in cookies, I guess I am stuck with it for now. I do not want any cookies kept.

This question was raised a few days ago on the Selling on eBay board:

"The variations capability is only available for certain categories and this limits our ability to sell cosmetics as a Canadian seller. when selling cosmetics such as liptsticks or lip gloss to be able to offer a multitude of shades is pretty basic. Yet we are forced to set up a listing for such products under the ebay.com site rather than the ebay.ca site.  The problem then is that we are unable to charge any sales tax for a Canadian buyer. Under the ebay.com site sales tax tables are only available for the U.S. states, not Canadian provinces."

http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/Variation-feature-limited-for-Canadian-company-selling-co...

Now, what do I know about selling variations of cosmetics on eBay? Nothing! Can't help that poster (a new seller)

My question to you today is:

Is the poster correct that she cannot use variations for cosmetics on eBay.ca or is it a matter of not understanding the system?

Can you help?

Hi pocomocomputing,

I get the same thing on my own account as well as my few test accounts. I haven't been able to see a pattern yet but cookies are probably it. In any case it won't be shown forever but I don't know exactly how long we are required to leave it there.

Hello Pierre,

I can help. After looking into this I saw that eBay.ca doesn't have the same coverage for listings with variations as eBay.com does for the cosmetics category. I have been working with the selling team to enable the categories missing variations on eBay.ca but as you may imagine, it was easy to miss some, haha! I'll ask the team to enable the missing ones in Health & Beauty.

Thanks for the report!

Good afternoon, Raphael:

May I add another to the list? This is an ongoing problem that I am having with trying to change the handling fee on an item. I don't charge handling fees per se but use a set amount to offset the paypal postage discount which is only applicable to certain levels of service. Regardless, when I try to alter it, the process hijacks the page, asks me if I want to 'leave it' and when I do, it strips the listing of all its specifics but doesn't affect the handling fee in question. It's an endless loop.

I'll post screen captures in a minute.

Maureen

Hello pocomo, it's absolutely a result of clearing cookies. My notices always repeat after I clear the cache and cookies. If I don't, they remain Xed from the previous visit. - M

My apologies for being a page hog here but I am absolutely perplexed but this. If I opt to 'stay on page' nothing changes and I can't alter the handling fee. If I 'leave page', it strips the listings but leaves the handling fee exactly as it stands. Is anyone else reporting this? I haven't seen it anywhere on ebay.ca.

More importantly, how can I change my handling fee? Should I end the listing and then 'sell similar' and hope that works? Relist doesn't. I tried that already.

No worries, it's a really quiet week this week. We can use more posts!

I tried updating the handling cost on one of your items and got the same result. Definitely it's not supposed to do that. I've alerted the SYI team and will track it as a bug.

Great! Thank you very much.

If I may, can you share some insight on this 'Coupon' announcement? It's really not my area of experience as either a buyer or seller but my curiosity was piqued when the Coupon Policy Amendment was announced here two days ago. Was there a rash of coupon fraud in Canada?!?

Is a 'code' a coupon? As in for an online game? If the code was included as part of a toy, for example, and then the seller keeps the toy but lists the unique code for it on ebay to sell to someone else. Is that allowed?

The concept is foreign to me but I see other sellers in my category doing it.

Does the seller have to physically mail the sheet with the code to the buyer? Or just provide it to the buyer via ebay Messages?

Perhaps I am sitting on a goldmine of online does since my children are too young for me to allow unrestricted access to video games. Hah.

This is more preventive than anything. When you think about it, what is no longer allowed makes sense. Coupons for free products or of the "buy one get one free" type aren't usually supposed to be sold for profit. Electronic or items are not allowed for sale on eBay so coupons of the same nature shouldn't either. Lastly, no need to explain why coupons for recalled items or recalled coupons shouldn't be sold. As for the inventory limits placed on the category, that's a way to ensure we only attract legitimate sellers.

Digitally delivered goods (DDGs) are not allowed for sale on eBay. This includes sending someone a code via email. Such codes are probably OK to sell, assuming the company who redeems them allows for the resale of its codes (many don't). If allowed for resale, a code would have to be physically sent to a buyer in order to comply with eBay policy.

DDGs can be sold on eBay.com via the Classified Ad format (no auctions or fixed price).

Well..... that's a real eyeopener for me. What do you think of something like this? This is only one, picked at random from the listings that come up with a search of 'lego series online code' so it's not my intention to isolate this seller in particular..... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Lego-Minifigure-Series-14-Online-Code-/281792971433?hash=item419c2b82a9

That listing is non compliant. I have reported it.

I see. Thank you. I learned something new today, that's for sure.

There are dozens more where that came from. Listings of this type are plentiful on ebay. Does that mean that each one needs to be reported individually or is there an internal mechanism that is able to identify a problem area? Four search words show about 250 listings and of that at least 25 per cent are for codes alone and then 98 per cent of those say the code will be sent by email.... If I sit down and report each one, it will take me the remainder of the afternoon and I will feel like a Big Meanie by the end of it.

(Ultimately, I am glad now that I did not try to unload my hordes of them.)

Do you think this will ever change on eBay, perhaps for particular categories that don't involve programming code?

Oh dear, I just spent 10 minutes posting a detailed question with screen shots, and I see the whole thing has vanished!  Do you know what's happening with the boards?  I see another seller had a similar problem today.

Do I still have time to re-input all my text?  Are you about to leave?

It'S possible that this would change but it will most certainly involve quite a bit of programming! 🙂

I'll leave the thread open just for you 🙂 take your time.

I don't know of any issues with the boards, until I see what you do and what happens it's really hard for me to figure this out.
