Should I just wait until the end of the Estimated Delivery Date?

I bought an item on November 29.  On December 2nd, I notice that the seller hasn't shipped the item yet.  I politely asked if anything happened because it hasn't been shipped yet.  The person said they will ship it on Friday December 4 for "fast delivery".  It is now December 7th and the status on my item is still not yet shipped.  I messaged the seller again today to see if anything is up.  They haven't responded yet.

It is weird because normally sellers would either ship the items one or two days after I paid for what I purchased or they would immediately message me if the shipment was going to be a bit late.  This is the first time I've purchased something where a week later, it hasn't been shipped yet, plus I had to be the one to message them.

My Estimated Delivery Date is December 22nd even though they live in Canada like I am..  Should I wait until after December 22nd to do something about it?

Hello 'ragatosk',

You say this seller is in Canada?  At the time you posted this, it has been a full week.  That is too long not to at least have sent you a note of explanation.

If you buy much on ebay you will encounter slow shippers.  They are not scammers or anything like that,  they simply have not read the policy that explains to them if they do not ship within 7 days of cleared payment they will lose their seller protection.

You didn't pay with an e-cheque, did you?  That means your paypal account payment comes from your bank account, which can take up to 10 days to clear, -- and a seller cannot ship until it does.

A more important question, -- how much did you pay for shipping?  If you bought something small it probably will not have a tracking number because those are expensive.  Non-tracked items often take longer to arrive, sometimes much longer.

But the seller should still tell you it is on its way.

In Canada, the best tracking info will be found here, but of course you first need the number, don't you:

It seems to me by now you have contacted the seller often enough.  If you are like me and buy items because you want to receive items and not because you want to badger sellers and chase down refunds, I'd say wait another 2 weeks.

Even though at this time of year Canada Post has a lot more mail to deal with, an item from a Canadian seller should be able to find its way to your door after 2 weeks in the system.  (Which, by the way, is not an unusual length of time).

If you have nothing after that, (a total of 3 weeks waiting), file a Not Received claim.  Whether or not you contact the seller first to let him know is up to you.  It would be the considerate thing to do, but you don't want more empty promises.

As for those "estimated delivery dates", -- I can't imagine who thinks them up.  I have often waited 5-6 weeks for a book or dvd to come up from the US (a cheap-o book rate).  Those published dates are optimistic and sometimes unreasonable.  It is best if you use your own brains.

Paypal provides 180 days (almost 6 months) in which to file a claim, so if you sincerely want to receive your items, the best way to get them is to wait for them to show up.  Even items sent by Surface Mail (slow boat) should arrive in about 2 months, but allow 3 if you've agreed to a Surface Mail parcel.

For now, though, within Canada I think 3 weeks from cleared payment is enough time to wait before taking action.

Best of luck with that. Smiley Happy
