What do the different coloured stars next to bidders name mean? Example red, green etc

They denote the number of feedback the member has.

 

Buyers will always have 100% positive feedback. It's egoboo, but not really useful.

 

Seller feedback tells future buyers how the transaction went. Sellers can get negative and neutral feedback. Sellers also have Detailed Seller Ratings which describe in more detail how the transaction went.

The DSRs are actually more important.

A normal transaction gets Five Stars.

A horrible transaction gets ONE Star.

If a seller's DSRs drop below 4.3, his account can be restricted or even closed. There is other fallout for him.

 

If a seller has less than 98% positive FB, that is poor. (99.5% if the seller is in China)

If a seller has DSRs below 4.8 that is poor (4.9 if the seller is in China).

 

The reason for the difference for Chinese seller is that many of them are huge companies with many thousands of sales.

Also if ordering from overseas, remember that to get a refund on unsatisfactory goods you will have to return them. This is VERY expensive ($40 or more because tracking is required).
