What is an Auth Token?

admittedly, I haven't put anything up for sale in many months and I seem to have lost a token of some kind.  What does the message "Auth token is hard expired, User needs to generate a new token for this application." mean?

Hi.. I don't know what app you are using but it must require access to some of your ebay information via token. Some where is app profile/preferences must be a get/renew token.

It took a while but I finally caught on and realized I had to send the token from my Garage Sale app.  Thanks very much.
