What's the Deal with the 10 Cent Listing Fees for BIN Format?

I know that I read something recently concerning the above, but can't remember where. Either it was in someones post or on the eBay announcement board.

Unfortunately, I can't find reference to it now...

If someone could clarify the whole deal with this 10 cent lising BIN format, I would really appreciate it.

My take, from a poor memory, is that we can now list BIN format items for just 10 cents per listing until I think the end of Feburary.

But, here is my question/concern if the above is true. What happens after the end of February? Renewal of the listings next month goes back up to the normal price or what?

Is this is a short time frame sale on listings in an effort to get more BIN listings on eBay from sellers?

Kind of an unusual idea from a business perspective if it is short lived...

(ie) 1 million new listings at 10 cents each generates $100,000.00 in revenue for the first month for eBay... If people list these items with the 'good till cancelled' option, then they will automatically renew each month at the normal price... Some of us will catch it, but a lot of people may not...

If the 10 cent listing deal is on for ever, then great, but is this not just a business tactic for eBay to get more BIN listings up and then go back to the normal pricing strategy?

As stated in previous posts from other Power Sellers, the search results usually bring up the Auction format listings before the BIN format listings, so how does this 10 cent listing deal really help, if it is for the BIN format only?

Any comments clarifying the above are certainly welcome as I am not quite sure about this.

Any other comments speculatiing of what eBay is doing here would be welcomed as well...

It is all a bit cloudy to me...

Thanks to all who respond.

Forget everything you know and take a look at this http://pages.ebay.com/promo/10fixedprice10/

It is good until March 30th at which time fixed price listings drop to $0.05 for Premium stores.

Thanks Pierre, now I understand...

Am I correct in assuming that my listings with the 'Good Till Cancelled' format will automatically renew during this period for just 10 cents each as well, or is it just for 'new listings'?

I didn't read anything about eBay members with premium accounts getting their listing up for just 5 cents though. Did I miss something?

Thanks.

I think you mixed up the premium stores rate that will be in effect after Mar 30 with the sale rate in effect now.

YES - Check this http://www2.ebay.com/aw/ca/201001.shtml#2010-01-26170923

Basically you are looking at TWO different things -

1) Promotion currently in effect ($0.10) for fixed price listings until March 30

2) NEW pricing structure effective March 30th where insertion fees drop to $0.05 for Premium stores. Store inventory listings disappear.

The thing I am thinking we are going to have to be watchful of is the use of subtitles. At 2 cents on a store listing the cost was nominal but I will have to think long and hard about it on a fixed price listing at 50 cents a crack.

Glad you mentioned about the increase from 2 cents on a store listing for a subtitle vs. 50 cents for fixed priced listings.

I do believe that I will have to delete mine!

Thanks for the reminder!

Subtitles are going up to $1.50 not 50 cents.

I can't find any official reference to this, but both canleafmart and Pierre have recently mentioned this fact.

So considering that they are correct, there really is no need to think long and hard about keeping that feature.

Thanks for the heads up! No subtitles for me anymore. Perhaps I can get a few in by March 29th? Even if I have to end some listings early?

Yup it's a quick Cash Grab, That's what it is, Just like

the GTC Listings , one is unable to Revise that, you have to be quick and End the Listing B4 the 30 Days are up or you Pay again.

The only reason on some of my Listings I used that option was Because I read somewhere from ebay in The Section How to sell etc.

and it said have both Auction & Fixed Auctions with GTC to get more Traffic

go figure Times are hard for all 🙂

of the Topic now

Remember the good old days when you Listed something for sale & you would have many Bidders! over the Last year it seems we get alot of Watchers lol

Last week I sold a Sthil Quick cut saw worth $980 US and I had like 32 Watchers yet only 3 Bidders or so. Seems the watching aspect of the system is not that great,

I tried out something 2 weeks ago when I wanted this High def Video Camera, The

Auction started at .99 so I but My Max Bid at $105.00 and the system took it, I

was surprised, Now I know why I now only get 1 or 2 Bids on my Buckles & Pins

All a Buyer has to do is Place a High Max Bid & he will win the item Cheap lol

unless it's a Hot item I guess

Most buyers Today Want Hot items & only at Cheap Prices, I guess that's what it's all about.

But it's almost impossible to compete with our friends overseas.

Well That's just my View, Have a Good Day :))

"Last week I sold a Sthil Quick cut saw worth $980 US and I had like 32 Watchers yet only 3 Bidders'

At least the Stihl TS 400 saw you sold that same week (380206523660) got you 18 bids from 10 different bidders and sold for more than the 90 day average sale price of $278 (based on all ebay sites for TS400 ending over $100)

Your auction did quite well considering your saw looks like it has had a lot of use - even including the tune up. The best sale for that model was $611 - for one sold as new.

Stone saws probably go for more when the landscaping season is in full gear.
