Here is some information on reserves you may find helpful: http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/reserve.html.

----

Reserve not met" will appear under the current bid until an item receives a bid of $x.xx or more. Once bidding meets or exceeds an $x.xx reserve price, the "reserve not met" label will be removed and the highest bidder will win the item.

That is how to find out if it has a reserve.

Re: reserve

It is generally acceptable to ask the seller (BEFORE BIDDING) what the reserve is.

Most will tell you.

The few that get annoyed are not people you want to deal with anyway.

And read the Description. It is not unusual for sellers who use Reserves to say what the Reserve is somewhere in the Description.

Since so many buyers detest playing the reserve game (Ima gonna pretend you can get this for cheap cheap, but it's really gotta much higher price.) Reserved auctions can get much less action than unreserved ones that start at a price the seller would find acceptable. This can be a useful bidding strategy.

Hello 'cleaner4...'

<< how to tell if an item has a reserve on it?>>

An auction with a reserve price will have the red warning phrase "Reserve not met" on the bid page.  It's pretty hard to miss.

If you are interested in the item and wondering if the price is in your range, ask the seller what her reserve is.  There is nothing impolite about doing so, -- this is business, not tea and crumpets with the Countess de TiddlyTum.

Sure, you would not go to a neighbour's house and ask what she paid for the items in her home, but a seller of an item who declines to disclose the asking price is a seller who is not serious about selling.  If you walked in to a shop and asked about the price of an item,  how would you feel if the clerk told you "It's a secret, but if you guess right you can have it".

Ick.

So if the Reserve price is not stated in the listing somewhere, and you want to know because you are sincerely interested, ... ask.
