wrong address again

Got a bad buyer in USA who bought an item march 9, 2016. Buyer provided wrong  city and zip code to both paypal and ebay. Buyer has been badgering us since march 23, 2016 wanting to know why he has not received the item. Today we had a hunch and messaged him asking to confirm his corrent shipping address. Buyer replies to ebay message with the correct shipping address which is not the address in the ebay or paypal transactions for this item.

Buyer wants a refund. Is ebay or pay going to get away with forcing a refund?

Re: wrong address again

eBay is set up right now  in such a way that the buyer identifies a Primary Shipping address before they buy.

Paypal is linked to that address... and that is the address linked to the Paypal payment.

The address on Paypal cannot be changed after the Primary shipping address is identified on eBay.

This is a buyer's problem....

Both eBay and Paypal will say you shipped to the address associated with the payment.

But then .... What would happen with a Chargeback.?

Buyer provided the wrong address....

-----------------------------------

You may eventually have the parcel returned to you...

Unless the buyer  had his mailed forwarded to his new address...

and then it becomes a buyer's game...  and with some buyers every purchase is a game....

----------------------------------

and you keep going around in circles......  and wonder what next???

----------------------------------------

and the next time  this buyer contacts you.... Your answer.....  You cannot do anything until the parcel is returned to you.....

There is no real answer  until  the parcel comes back to you... if it does.....

-------------------------

if there is no tracking....  Buyer files and will get his money back

Re: wrong address again

Is there any waay to get a defect from this?

If so, how to prevent the defect?

Either way the buyer can leave a NEG. Will it stand or will ebay remove it?

Re: wrong address again

Why would the buyer leave NFB?

I would contact the buyer and ask him to call the PO and reroute the package to his actual address.

This has worked for me in the past.

Re: wrong address again

We think the buyer is trying to scam. He swears up and down that the address he gave us last night is the address he has always had in ebay/paypal, it is not, we know it for sure. Both the ebay transaction and paypal transaction have the same wrong address. He is also a 1 feedback buyer.who claims to have bought lots of stuff with the address he gave us last night. Problem is the sale was on march 9 and we shipped same day to a different wrong address that is in his ebay and paypal.

There is no way the 2 different addresses are the same place. According to google maps the two cities/towns are 9 miles apart. The street address is correct, just the city and zip code are different. The complete street address we shipped to does not exist.

This was shipped a month ago so calling the post office will do nothing.

Re: wrong address again

You shouldn't get a defect unless you refuse to refund when the buyer opens a case. If he asks eBay to step in then you would get an unresolved case defect.

Re: wrong address again

Thanks for the replies. We are just going to ignore the bad buyer now.

You might find this link helpful for US address verification. It doesn't give you all the functionality of dial-a-zip but it will help spot an obviously erroneous address.

Call ebay, explain and show that the address entered was wrong as evidenced by buyer's messages. Get a reference number. From what ebay reps have told me in previous experiences, the buyer is responsible for the original shipping cost and any return shipping costs incurred. It might be a slight headache in your case if you don't have tracking, but they should understand given the obviously wrong address.

This is extremely annoying with Canada Post parcel shipments in particular as you get dinged the full cost of return shipping. With USPS (USPS originating and return) I've yet to receive receive a return shipping charge, even with international packages. Yet to have a US bound package shipped via Canada Post returned, so not sure if you usually get dinged return costs on those.
