If I have a limit of selling only $2,000, what happens if bidding goes over that?

I'm just guessing but if I think that the bidding will continue until the auction is over even if the bidding is now over your selling limit.   Of course you wont be able to list anything else for the rest of the month.

More important, how do you plan to get paid?
Have you registered for a Managed Payments account?

You will need a checking account with a Canadian bank, plus secondary information. I used my passport. DH used his driving license.

Then eBay can transfer your customer payment to your bank account.

But as was pointed out, eBay will Hold payments to any new or returning seller for up to 30 days against their performance. Then the money Held will be transferred the next Tuesday.

It's business, not personal.

And since I am in busybody mode, it is not a good idea to sell high value items online (anywhere online) until you have built up a reputation to protect yourself. My suggestion is not until you have 10 DSRs, know what DSRs are, and recognize their utter unimportance.

Best wishes in your new enterprise.

eBay's criteria is very clear: the amount/number of listings or the dollar amount of sales within the 30 day month period=whichever is reached first...If the dollar amount of sales($2000) is reached first, you will not be able to post any more listings until the next month...when that dollar amount is reached eBay may curtail your selling ability for an unspecified time duration=that's at eBay's discretion...Regardless of any of that, eBay can and will most likely withhold your sales monies for 3 weeks or so before releasing them to your bank account.
