Big Question from New User

Hi,
I just recently sold my first auction item on eBay, but it was an awful experience and ended up getting cancelled.
I hadn't listed shipping options for international bidders, and yet an international bidder won. They then told me it wouldn't let them pay, so I updated the invoice with an international shipping option, and still no. I checked and I don't have any type of sellers blocked. But I went and made an exception for their account which should have let them bypass any settings I may have, to see if that was the problem. They're still telling me that no, it won't let them pay. So I just have to cancel the transaction. It's very frustrating because I had other bidders here in Canada that they kept outbidding until they won.

What have I done wrong in this scenerio? Why won't it let them pay me?

Thanks so much

What is the winning bidder's country?
Submit a second chance offer to the other bidder(s).

Re: Big Question from New User

If you look at your looking as if you are a buyer and click on the shipping tab, you'll see that ebay has excluded shipping to certain countries. There are some countries that Canada Post is not shipping to right now although if that is why they added the list, it isn't totally accurate.   If your buyer was one of those countries that might have been  the problem. In a situation like that, adding the buyer to your buyer preferences exemption list may or may not help.

Just a note..your $2 to ship internationally isn't going to be enough to cover your postage or supplies.

Have you tried sending them an invoice with shipping to their address?

Re: Big Question from New User

As a new seller, it is a poor idea to sell overseas.

In order to block international buyers, you have to specifically block them. It is not enough just to say so in your Description.

On your current listing, go to Revise, and scroll down to -> International Shipping-> No International Shipping.

You can also scroll further to ->Exclude Shipping Locations->Create Exclusion List->International -> and click all boxes EXCEPT North America.

That means your listings cannot be seen by customers in those countries.

And switch from the terrible Simplified Sell Your Item form to the Business/Advanced form. There is a link in the top right of the Sell form.

Because of the problems with international shipping these days, I would suggest that you politely explain to the customer that shipping does not appear to be possible.

Then CANCEL the transaction, using Problem With Address.

This leave you free to relist the item with revisions to shipping.

Every minute you spend trying to make this work is a money loser. At minimum wage here in BC, you are losing 23c every minute you spend on this.

It's a learning experience. Everyone hates those.

Shipping is the hardest part of mail order.

And you really really really need this:

and this:

https://www.canadapost.ca/cpc/en/business/small-business.page?

And a digital scale and a tape measure.

Best wishes.

It does get better.
