Im a first time buyer on ebay.  When you buy something and it says that it is being delivered Canada Post and a signature is required.  If Im not home, can one of my family members at my home address sign for the package

I've signed stuff for my wife numerous times and have had stuff signed by others on my behalf.

Having said that, if someone's going to be really sticky about this, it's likely what will happen is that your package will be held for pick-up at a designated post office or postal outlet.

Re: Buyer - Shipping question

most of the time they will let someone else sign for it but then the signature protection aspect for the seller would be void and Canada post would owe the seller if the buyer ever claimed they did not recieve

I don't think that is correct, but I haven't looked into it. But going from Canada Post's guidelines on picking up parcels at the post office, any resident of the delivery household can pick up.  Further I remember that Fedex and UPS got in trouble for allowing minors to sign for items at households but adults are fine. As long as they reside at the house and are of majority, I am pretty sure they can sign for it, and that is accepted policy by ebay as signed delivery confirmation. The vast majority of parcels delivered, and a large percentage (no idea if majority or not) of ebay shipments go to businesses, residences or locations that have multiple people there. The headaches that would be caused if only the addressee could sign for it would be quite large I would think.

an item on behalf of someone else or a “home based” business and live at the same address

one piece of acceptable government issued photo ID indicating residence at the same address as the address on the item.

Re: Buyer - Shipping question

I once lost a package because CP let someone else sign for it. Never figured it out but PayPal did side with me and I got refunded.

I agree froogal, as far as I know there isn't any regulation stating that only the addressee is authorized to sign.
