Cdn coin sellers/buyers - some advice needed please

I have 7 Cdn coins I would like to sell. I am a long time seller (on another ID) but have never sold any coins and won't need to again.

These coins are silver and one is gold, mostly older Olympic coins, all uncirculated and bought from the RCM. I can find most on ebay and sold prices are $70 to $450 so I need to protect my investment. I have a few questions please.

1. What is the difference between coins called sterling silver and coins called fine silver?

2. How does one package up coins for mailing - in boxes or just in padded envelopes?

3. Shipping - expedited or express? Are coins insured by CP or do I look for outside insurance?

Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks!

Discussion on the differences in the silvers:

Package like you mean it. Coin holders would be a good idea.

Money is never insurable in the mail.

My understanding of CP insurnace is that coins are insurable but only to $500. Same with stamps.

Here is a Canada Post document (see section 12.1.2 b)

ng silver is 92.5% pure.  Fine silver is 99.9% pure. I don't know what Olympic coins you have but there is a chance they may only be worth the bullion (silver content) value.  If this is the case and you are wanting to protect your investment you might want to try to sell them locally as once you take 15% or so percent in fees into account you may very well net a lot less.  Just my opinion.

Most large towns have coin clubs.  Google coin clubs in your area.  In my area of Woodstock, Tillsonburgh, London each has a coin club or two.  Coins shows are a monthly event in my area.  Vendors are eager to see other people treasures.  Good luck to you.

When you buy "coins" you also pay the cost of advertising, packaging and shipping them.
And the bullion value is currently dropping. Again.
I don't think you can protect your investment with metals. Stocks that pay dividends are a better bet.
However, the sooner you sell them the sooner you will get rid of something you don't want (the coins) and get something you do want (money).

If he coins that are rare id take them any day over stocks. i have several rare coins, war medals and firearms. i laugh when i see how the value increases yearly in them. stocks? no way. If they are bullion coins hed be better off to sit on them till price goes up.
