Extorsion and blackmail from buyer

I received the following message from a bad buyer ;

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I phoned trust and safety, she told me over the phone that it is ebay policy to support the buyer with his extortion and blackmail attempt, therefore they will not remove the negative.

This is a very dangerous first.

Is the government guilty of advertising?

Think very carefully about what you just wrote.

You know that would never be allowed on eBay yet you have found a way to work the system on Kijiji.

I agree.  How can a seller blame a buyer for being upset that a transaction was not conducted according to eBay's policies, even if that buyer intended on re-selling the item at a higher price?  Smart buyer, so??

In my view, whatever the reason for being unable to ship the item once the buyer pays, not having the item in your hands in the first place is a recipe for trouble.  Doing it deliberately (i.e. advertising something you can't be certain of producing for the buyer) is Russian roulette for the seller, both in terms of FB/DSRs and eBay policy.  It also may be false advertising in the "real world", and is definitely an eBay no-no.  The OP has compounded the error by using FB responses as vengeance.  Bad business tactics on both counts.

"Marketing experts" will tell you anything you want to hear if it makes a potential sale.  Not all such advice is ethical or even legal.  Just recall the number of marketing schemes that have been the subject of criminal or civil suits in the past few years -- remember all those investment firms who couldn't deliver on their promised advertising.  Need I say more?

Yes, well, the RCM actually makes these coins, so they can control how many they have in their hands.  There's nothing wrong with advance advertising of a product that can be produced in any quantity necessary.

Many artistic items, such as lithographic prints, are pre-sold and produced in runs, depending on demand.  The same applies to things like condos, which can be pre-marketed and pre-sold by the developer (although they get themselves into trouble for different reasons).

Clearly completely different from being a second or third-tier seller who cannot guarantee supply and must cut off buyers as a result.  That sort of thing is not a good idea on eBay.  Eventually the reputation of thwarting buyers will come back to bite you.

I thought very carefully about what i posted.

I are not talking about the government here, i am talking about you & how you have found a way to work the system to your advantage on Kijiji.

If you feel this is an Ethical Way of Advertising Product, then post the same item on eBay.

Remember to add in the description " Advertising Only, Coin is Not Available. "

Yes, except if you look closely at each of these advertisements, you will note that it is stated "Out of Stock" or "Sold Out", i.e. a buyer would not be able to make a purchase (because the RCM had a limited mintage).

Quite different from advertising something that one may or may not be able to produce once a buyer pays.

Angus said: "now your blocked." " Block him for good" "ALL SELLERS "BLOCK HIM" HE IS DANGEROUS" "STOP LYING YOUR TEETH WILL FALL OFF" "WHAT WRONG WITH YOU YOUR BLOCKED".

Clear evidence of high morality and open arms.

Try doing what I just did -- press the "Buy" button, and you'll get a screen with a message saying the item is no longer available.  That's fair.

If I'd been able to process my purchase through to payment, I would have agreed with you, but no, this is not the same as offering something for sale knowing it is not in your hands, accepting the buyer's good faith payment, and then having to renege on the transaction by refunding.  That would leave a very sour taste in most buyers' mouths.

It is okay to lie, cheat, and steal because others are doing it. Morality by Angus. Everything is legal until you get and permanently suspended "for no reason".

The OP needs to get his friends at CRA to intervene on his behalf!

You have got to be kidding, " Everyone Else Does It, So Its Okay. "

Our kids tried that & we never bought it back then. Course they were twelve at the time.

We are talking about you, not other coin websites.

Stop passing the buck, your arguement has no credibility.

Nor is the argument even sound, as I pointed out -- comparing the advertising of the Royal Canadian Mint and others for a limited edition coin that is now sold out is irrelevant.

No one can make a purchase, and that is clearly indicated on these websites.  There is no attempt at deception.

Re: Extorsion and blackmail from buyer

BB, I wish I could sell phony listings and claim the buyer is at fault. I wish I could dish it out and then hide behind Momma eBay when the buyer retaliates. I have run into people like Angus. They simply do not care about anyone but themselves. Freakin' scares me.

Then, when something bad happens to them? They wonder why no-one will support them. Angus, AKA, Mr I Don't Burn Bridges.

Inuk, it all comes down to "Doing The Right Thing "

I make my profit, they make theirs.

Once the items ships, i really don't care anymore.

Could i have sold it for more, maybe & maybe not.

I will take my profit & buy other items.

You always make it up.

Ethics & Greed do not make a good combination.
