Hello all -- I could use some input on this one if anyone has the answer! I list with flat rate shipping. I don't specify "worldwide", but cherry-pick my locations on the SYI form, i.e. one rate for domestic, another for U.S. only, and another for international destinations.
Now, when setting the rate for international, the SYI form offers a list of what I assume are the most popular places -- Europe, Australia, Japan, Germany, France, etc. I check most of the boxes on these, but leave out one or two. I also have an exclusion list set up, with exceptions from the exclusion for Oceania -- in other words, in the detailed list under Oceania, I uncheck Australia, New Zealand and a couple of other locations.
My problem is this: on double-checking a few of my listings by entering my current location as New Zealand (in the Shipping section), no flat rate shipping quote shows. I get only this message:
"This item will ship to New Zealand, but the seller has not specified shipping options. Contact the seller and request a shipping method to your location."
Does anyone know (a) why this happens; (b) if there is any way to make sure a shipping cost is shown for New Zealand when one lists with flat rate shipping? This is important to me, as I want to be sure New Zealanders can see a shipping amount. I assume New Zealanders have to log onto eBay.au or other eBay site, i.e. they don't have their own?
By the way, Australia works just fine, and the rate is shown correctly as I've set it for international.

That glitch has existed for quite a while on both .com and .ca. The only way to show a price for New Zealand is to check off 'worldwide' when you are entering your shipping costs. If you check off custom locations such as Europe, Australia, Japan etc...New Zealand or any country that isn't covered by that list, there will not be a shipping cost listed.
On another issue....I noticed that on quite a few of your listings, you have Australia checked off as a place you ship to AND as an a shipping exclusion. If I set my location as if I was in Australia and click on see sellers listings, your search view shows a shipping price on most of those listings but shows shipping not specified on 3 listings. But for all of those particular listings, when you click on the listing it states that the item does not ship to Australia and there is no shipping price. I didn't check to see that if problem affected any other countries.

Um? Aren't those the boxes for excluding where you ship to?

Thanks 'pj' -- I thought that might be the case (glitch re NZ). I really don't want to use "worldwide", as I have all my shipping options set up and I'd have to revise everything. Also, I've had my problems with the exclusion list using flat rate (see below), and I don't trust eBay's software not to create a disaster if I try to "undo" everything now.
As far as the Australia problem goes, this is something I'm aware of, and seems to be a stupid glitch caused several months ago that had to do with the exclusion list. I originally set up my exclusion list (unchecking Australia, NZ and a couple of others as I intended), yet somehow that setting evaporated later when I went to make changes to my flat rate shipping details on some of the listings. I also use Auctiva, which may have caused some of the incompatibility with eBay's updates.
I don't know whether people using calculated shipping have troubles with eBay's programming, but flat rate has been touchy once you start using the exclusions. I just got fed up and left the mish-mash as it was. However, I am going to have to spend the time to check and correct at least all the Australia problems.
I think I'll just leave well enough alone with NZ and let them get in touch if they want to know about shipping.

No, this is what makes it rather confusing. Those boxes are completely separate from the exclusion list.
There is a "cherry-picking" box of the more popular destinations that you can make pop up by clicking on "specify certain locations" -- or something similar -- when you're entering the international flat rate shipping amounts. These aren't all countries as such; some are whole areas (like S. America or Europe). If I recall there are about 7 or 8 choices.
As 'pj' mentioned, the problem arises because eBay hasn't included some destinations in the "cherry-picking" boxes, so if you de-exclude (not a word, I know, but you get my meaning) those destinations from your exclusion list, eBay's system picks them up as "ship to" locations, but doesn't pick up your actual international shipping cost. It's an issue with lack of cross-compatibility within eBay's programming itself.
This could be solved if eBay's programmers would simply make the box that says "Australia" say "Australia & New Zealand". Voilà! (Anybody out there at eBay listening in?).
Anyway, thank you two for replying!
