I was chatting with ebay's Android Core Product Manager

Mark is his name. Very interesting fellow. He did a presentation along with Jonathan who is Senior Product Manager, iPhone.

62% of all sales are touched, somewhere in the transaction, on a mobile device.

Fastest growing countries for mobile device use are emerging countries, and, the US. Yes, our primary market is heavy into mobile devices and growing.

Mark basically showed me how he searches, and which is apparently somewhat typical of all who search on mobile devices. A few key words, maybe a refinement, and then, he searches by best picture.

On a phone, text is hard to see, price is not always that clear, the picture stands out. He was showing me something he was looking at buying, the pictures were great, the price was too high. However, the pictures kept grabbing him.

White background. On a mobile device, white backgrounds cause the picture to "pop" as Mark said. Coloured backgrounds, you can hardly see the item.

Optimize the pictures, make sure they are 1600 X 1600 and square. Plus? Use all twelve. Pictures in the description are a total waste. First thing Mark did when he went into a listing was to scroll the pictures in gallery. It is more effort than buyers will put in, to go into the description to view pictures.

Wordy text with templates, you are wasting your time. That is virtually unreadable on a mobile device. It has to be expanded, scrolling sideways, up, down, I watched him get frustrated by a listing like that and exit it.

60% of buyers never scroll down to the description.

The hook is your first picture. Second appears to be the price. Good keywords in the title direct the searcher to the listing where the picture is the hook.

Jonathan and Mark are Class A managers who know what they are talking about. They know where the market is and what it is doing, plus, where it is going.

ebay Radio Party, five years ago, eBay did not send any talent. They sent a  lot of high priced talent this year. They are super approachable and love to talk to sellers.
