Just to clarify...New user agreement

This morning I received an email re:new user agreement...telling me about GSP and that I need to opt in but

"only after you have indicated a desire to take advantage of this program in the form of an electronic click-through acceptance of the User Agreement or otherwise"

..and the only other option available is to close my account according to their optional link.So technically even if I don't "indicate a desire",it doesn't matter,as it's pretty well mandatory..accept and sell..don't accept it..close your account. There is no choice. My desire apparently means nothing.

My question is as a .com seller with shipping from Canada, the GSP should not apply to me as a seller?...at least for now until they change and force Canadian sellers to participate and make their international buyers pay extra for the Pitney/Ebay collaboration fee grab?

Thanks

Just to clarify...New user agreement

ALL readers should take a look at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/user-agreement.html?rt=nc

eBay User Agreement (Posted April 26, 2013. Effective for new users immediately and for current users on July 1, 2013 and superseding all previous versions of the eBay User Agreement)

To answer your question specifically, the new agreement states:

"The Global Shipping Program is designed to simplify international buying and selling on eBay. For items that are located in the United States and that you sell to an international buyer through the Global Shipping Program, you will simply ship the sold item to a parcel processing facility located in the United States."

Since your items are not located in the USA, do not worry about it.  Life is too short to worry about everything and anything.

It isn't mandatory for U.S. sellers although it does seem as if ebay is trying to "slip" it into some seller's listings.

Unless you have previously opted into the Global Shipping Program, we may choose to make your listings available to international buyers through the Global Shipping Program after you have indicated your desire to take advantage of this program by accepting this User Agreement in the form of an electronic click-through. If you do not accept the electronic click-through, you will not be able to take advantage of the Global Shipping Program, but you will still be bound by all other provisions of this User Agreement.

If a seller does do the click-through not realizing that they will be registered in the gsp they don't have to use it.

Following acceptance, you may later opt out of the program by adjusting your account settings within My eBay.

That new Agreement:  If you read it quickly is almost seems like it's asking sellers to agree to use the GSP.

I know that isn't the case, but unless you actually take the time to read closely it can be deceiving  and that's no accident.

Also, why give the GSP such a prominent place in the agreement?

Why is ebay pushing the program to this extent?

I just don't get that.  I don't understand why ebay doesn't care that their buyers HATE this so much and yet they continue with pushing it.

It's insulting and disrespectful to everyone.

That said............ I really have to wonder what would happen to Canadian sales if all US sellers used the GSP.

I'm not sure if it would boost our sales tremendously, or hurt everyone because international buyers would leave........

Or maybe a little of both?

I think eBay USA is pushing GSP because of the simple motivation of more profit for them.  I also think USA sellers avoided joining and it is not going as well as eBay/Pitney Bowes had hoped.

And USPS threw a curve at eBay and Pitney Bowes by allowing low cost delivery confirmation on First Class Mail International for Canada and 19 other countries (coming soon) in the recent yearly rate update. So less of a need for sellers to use more expensive services with DC mail when all 20 countries have FCI DC.

Do not opt in for global shipping program, it is not mandatory to sign in. You may have already hear, but a lot of buyers chose to not bid from any seller who use the global shipping program, because it charges them additional import charges that they would never get if it was shipped by another means.

For example, a Canadian buyer will get the following Import charges from a US seller using the global selling program:

Item value: $1.77 USD ---> Import charges: $3.34 USD

Item value: $24.49 USD --> Import charges: $8.34 USD

Item value: $63.00 USD -->  Import charges: $11.94 USD

here is the catch: No Canadian laws allows to charge $3.34 USD on a $1.77 package because it is under the duty exemption threshold.

It also takes way longer for package to arrive by Global shipping program
