LEVEL PLAYING FIELD MY ASS

Hi All,
Maybe Darla or Moira can answer this simple level playing field question.
I was doing some eBay store maintenance during the holidays. I wanted to change our store name to our website name but got shut down.
A quick check of some US Power Sellers shows that althought I am not allowed to use www. or .com in our store name others like wyomingben, www.ohvmcparts.com and others but we can't . Can someone please tell me why this is allowed!!!

If your web site is selling items you are not permitted to link your eBay auctions or eBay store to it.

The rules are pretty clear and eBay doesnt make any exceptions. You are permitted to link only if your web site is telling eBay buyers more about you (contact information etc.) or a more complete product or manufacturing description however you cannot sell through your web site at all.

We intended to sell through our web site until we studied the eBay rules. If someone is on our site and is interested in what we are selling, our web site simply links them directly to our eBay auctions, which is a plus for eBay.

We do not promote any specific product we are selling aside from what we post on eBay.

While this may change down the road, we realize that we will have to withdraw reference to our web page in our eBay auctions should we begin listing different products for sale and operate a shopping cart on our web page.

Hello Malcolm,
You are right. The rules are clear. But why can some Powersellers use their domain names as their store names and others can't??
If the rules apply to some and not others I can't see how the ebay "level playing field" is applied.

Someone uses wwwricepaddycom as thier user ID. There are no .'s in it so it isn't a webpage. They sell stuff on thier webpage.

I know these so well because I have broken so many of them

Why do some stores have www.itsyourname.com

and now you can not add it

It's a grandfather clause. When Ebay stores first came out you were aloud to use www.itsyourname.com as your store naem. Now Ebay has prevented it , somthing in the system prevents the adding of www. or .com together

As for web sites in auctiona

It's very clear on Ebay's site rules NO web sites in auctions PERIOD
The web site can not be listed in auction as www.itsyourname.com as a hyper link or as a static link. You can not palce your web site in the auction and then state well the web site has more info about our product and auctions in general

Ebay allows one exception to the rule . Under ebays rules are allowed to place a static page with info related too that particular auction

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~quote from ebay rules~~~~
There are two exceptions to this general rule. An eBay item page may contain a link to information related specifically to that item that:
1) * Acknowledges a company providing services related to that listing (such as counters, listing management tools, or payment services). This acknowledgement may contain a logo (88x33 pixels) and up to 10 words of text (HTML font size 3) but only one of those may be clickable.
2) * Points interested buyers to another Web page that contains nothing other than more information (such as pictures, product specifications or detailed terms and conditions) about eBay items listed by that seller.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You can see in ebay's rule 2 they state WEB PAGE not Web site
