Tea, are you kidding? This is a quarter per transaction, it's over $50/m of pocket money for me or $100-$200 for others on here. Beats DSR discount by far!

Well, if you have 400 transactions in one month you save $100.00 in fees. Not shabby at all! Pennies add up!

" if you have 400 transactions in one month you save $100.00 in fees"

Only if the transaction takes place in Cdn$.

There is no change to the PayPal fees charged to US$ transactions.

The second part of the announcement regarding currency conversion fee is not accurate.

The blog gives the wrong information. Here are the comments I posted on the blog (whether they appear or not is not me decision):

Once again I notice your chart states a current 2.5% conversion fee. This is incorrect. PayPal has increased its conversion spread (difference between buying and selling currencies) from 5.0% to 5.2% during the Summer of 2007; or 2.6% fee for each of buying or selling currency.

You have been previously informed of this discrepency and I am surprised you are still giving the wrong information. .

If a pickpocket took 5 bucks from your wallet and then walked over and gave you a quarter, would you be this happy. Some of you would.

Tea, no offense, but did you try to look around for a CC processor or a complete e-commerce solution? I did and PP was the best game in town even then.

Now they lowered the transaction fee by 47% and you keep whining "I want more, more ...".

2.5% commision for a CC transacation is not so shabby and one of the lowest with the volumes we are dealing here. Other CC processors charge monthly fee, transaction fee is not refunded on refunds, some even charge extra fee for refunds. Every credit card processor charges currency conversion fees 2.5% being pretty standard across industry.

So what the he*l are you whining about now?

Have to agree with dipmicro on this one. I shopped around for cc processors when I opened up my website. The "add-on" charges are nuts and none could come close to matching PayPal.

I am considering opening up a US bank account so I can use Google however. 😉

Hi Monique,

What are the differences in fees between Google and PayPal. I still have my bank account in the States. Thanks for any info or the url as to where to look!

So what the he*l are you whining about now? ... I object to the double dipping.

Paypal's service is taking online payments. Currency conversion should be done at whatever the exchange rate is. We've already paid them once for their service.

Would you pay for postal service and the shipping label? No, Canada post gives out Expedited and small packet labels free, as many as you like. They will even give you the clear plastic pouches for the side of the parcel, no charge.

When you buy fries, you get the ketchup - with it. Napkins too.

Paypal is gouging consumers. That's what I'm pointing out.

So they give me a quarter per transaction, they are taking way more back on the exchange some days.

Currency conversion should be done at whatever the exchange rate is.

You obviously have no clue about foreign exchange markets and how they work. PayPal's 2.5% (or 2.6 if that's the case) margin is very similar to almost any other service available especially in light of the small amounts it applies to.

The new reduced rates for higher value exchanges are in fact pretty amazing, substantially lower than other available services. Once again nobody is forcing you to use PayPal to effect the exchange, if you wish to use a third party nobody is stopping you.

No doubt that the per transaction fee should have been reduced long ago, that being said PayPal could have probably gotten away without reducing it if they had wanted to.

We've already paid them once for their service.

You paid for credit card processing, foreign exchange is a second service. How would you react if a buyer paid for your item and then said "I already paid you, why do I have to pay for shipping as well".

Two issues:

You MAY have to have a U.S. address as well. A PO Box would suffice.

eBay/PayPal has protectionist policies in place that will not allow you to offer Google Checkout in your listings.
