My First Paypal Fraud Reversal

Well today I got my first Paypal Fraud Reversal. I sold a $14US item, got paid with Paypal, shipped the next day and 2 days later got this notification from Paypal. I logged into Paypal and sure enough there is the pending reversal. I'm pretty sure I am going to lose the money because this transaction was with a unconfirmed Canadian.

My question is this: What other things should I be doing? The item is still in transit according to CP tracking. Is there a way to stop shipping the item? (I don't think there is a way)

I found https://www.recol.ca to file online fraud with the RCMP.

I got the contact information from Ebay and called. Wrong phone number.

I've emailed PS Support about it.

He's also stolen from 5 other sellers as well. I've contacted them and they all have the same story.

Anything else I can do? I've basically resigned myself to have lost the money but I want this guy in jail.

Call CP and tell them theres some undisclosed white powder in the package and watch as the police raid the guy's house.

Thanks I will call CP about trying to hold it.

Randall, don't worry about the generic response. I was looking for any advice and any comments are helpful.

I'm not too distressed about this loss. I was expecting some kind of loss and had this in the business plan.

Some good advice given and things to try.

Thanks everyone

Who is you don't have any money in your paypal account at the moment, and then the buyer file a chargeback? If it's a big amount, I would rather close my paypal acct then pay for the chargeback, does it work?

If you have no money in your PayPal account AND do not have a credit card or bank account connected to your PayPal account you"may" be off the hook. If the amount is large enough PayPal could send the amount out for collection.

If you do have a bank account connected they will try to extract the funds from your bank, if there is not enough funds there you will get dinged a service charge by your bank similar to an NSF item (currently $20 - $30 at most banks.

I also suspect that if you try to open a new PayPal account in the future they may be able to make a "connection" and extract the funds from your new account. I'm not sure about this but it seems likely to me.

I thought they couldn't do this anymore because of a class action suit they lost on this exact issue.

My First Paypal Fraud Reversal

I just had a paypal reversal too!
Sold an item 2.5 months ago for $215, now paypal is reversing it because somehow it determined was fraud, but it is not!
i even had the customer fax in an affidavit to paypal and i provided a tracking# proving the item was shipped.
There's no more communications allowed once you supplied them with a tracking #, all further emails enquiry resulted in a form letter reply and suggest you contacted them through the website. You contacted them through the website and you got another form letter.
I called their long distance # (no toll free) and was holding for 15 minutes and i had to hung up because of other incomeing call.
Now the amount is reversed, but their service fee is not. So now i am out $215 plus about $8 something paypal fee.
Luckily cutomer will send me a cheque for the $215.
But it's been a pissing experience with paypal, to say the least.

Received another email from paypal regarding another chargeback, log in but there's no charge back!
Try to use the paypal debit card to pay a supplier for the 3rd time, it's been declined even though there's enough balance in it; it went through the 1st time OK.
Emailed paypal support but no answer for 48 hours and just hold hold hold on the phone.
What's going on???

Did you try calling the Number on the back of your Paypal Card? They froze mine once because I made 3 different purchases in 3 different countries and they thought the number was stolen.

yes i did it's the same paypal # which puts you on hold forever! And they make you listen to a commercial regarding a survey on improving service first, it's sickening.

hi marcopoloca,

i will shared my experience with you about a similar case. this person stole over $160 US from me. the a**hole wouldn't answer my calls (but mom did, once). the cops will not do anything b/c is less than $5000. they told me to take them to small claims court. i even had the address and phone #, but they did nothing. paypal was also useless. i even provided them a tracking # that stated confirmed shipping. paypal takes the side of the customer. their policy is that the customer is always right. the guy finally dis-connceted his phone (probably because i was extremely pissed and called him at all hours of the night). i hate to say it, but its part of doing business. its like if someone shoplift from your store.

oh yea, i finally got his account suspended. but, he is probably using another name and doing the same thing.

Thank you for sharing your experience.
"its like if someone shoplift from your store."
While there's very little we can do about it.
but it's adding insult to the injury that the police think it's too small for them to handle and the insurance/credit card co. think you are the one who should pay for it 😞

I have had this happen a few times and in all cases the customer got the money and the product and I lost the money and the product...Nothing I can do BECAUSE I shipped to an unconfirmed address and small packet no tracking number.

these are the too biggest evils I find on ebay right now.

but thats life as it is in the ebay/paypal world.
prefect world would be confirmed addresses for everyone and tracking numbers on everything..but untill then I roll the dice and move on.

I run a business so I expect this to happen from time to time and deal with it it is just like someone stealling from your store it happens.

Ebay and Paypal are trying there best and it is getting alot better then before.

My First Paypal Fraud Reversal

Paypal got to be the most un-professional credit card company i ever talk to, period!
i have a buyer from Europe with minus% feedback who paid me by paypal, so i called paypal to see what protection i have in case the customer is pulling my legs and claim a chargeback.
the first time i was told the customer actually paid by bank account and i can call back in a few days to make sure the money is actually there.
i called back a few days later and talk to another associate, now this time he's saying that he can't disclose this information to me and it's up to me whether to accept credit cards or not, and i am free to refund the money (and forget the whole thing), blah..; furthermore he said that on the detail page i can see whether the payment is from credit card or bank account (but i can't); he kept saying that i should just do a refund and up to me whether to make the sales or not crap i asked him to refer me to someone who can be more helpful....
Five minutes later a lady picks up the phone and started to give me a lecture about paypal policy, she's even more arrogant than the other person and when i told her she should be doing more listening than talking in order to resolve the issue, she simply hung up 😞
