Sold a pair of boots last night. I sent out my invoice. This morning i woke up, payment was made, and a neutral feedback was left saying Thank you. The person is a newbie who out of three transactions has left two neutrals, saying thank you. Not sure what kind of feedback I should leave, the parcel hasn't even been mailed yet. Got me stymied.

Why don't you maybe explan it to her by sending a friendly email. This person might reorder from you again in the futur. This is called good customer service and maybe think of leaving this person a positive feedback for paying you so quickly (Remember without buyers we wouldn't be here selling).
This is my thinking.

I would definitely advise the buyer (very politely from my experienced view of ebay) that this is a mistaken way to leave feedback. And I would respond with "New buyer doesn't understand FB system" and be done with it. I would not harbour a grudge--and I've had a few neutrals from Newbies who mistakenly posted there. Gloria

Well neutral is better than neg, but still. Sounds like just a newbie who does not fully understand feedback.
I would reply with a neutral "you're welcome", then I would post a follow up to the neutral that was left for you. Something like "? New eBayer, auction closed last nite, parcel ship'g today"

I guess that's "Taking one for the team"...
Maybe you could send a link related to the feedback process. This should explain to the client how it works without you having to do all the work.
In the big picture though, she needs the feedback rating more than you do. When you have a higher feedback rating, as you already do, the one neutral feedback will not have a significant effect on buyers, they will end up buying from you anyway, if the item is what they want.
