''Not Received'' Statistic

Does someone know if ebay can provide some ''Not Received'', statistic country by country ?... That might be interesting for seller to use and decid to ship or not in such country !!???!

For me it seems that I have some problem with numerous russian/bresilian/mexican expeditions.

Cheers !

Even if they did, they would never make them public. It would hurt sales which is all they care about, If sellers eat items and money, so be it.

If eBay actually cared about sales they would make sure the sellers are the ones who are treated fairly. If there are no sellers there are no buyers.

Those stats wouldn't make any sense for us stuck with CP since the rest of the world including the usa sends almost everything with del confirmation.

That is why I want stats, since I ''need'' to use CP and the cost of the service with tracking is out of price, that infos will be more than important for me to take a decision to ship in such country or not !

eBay probably does not have any such stats because eBay controls a relatively small percentage of all shipping between all nations.  Many (probably most) delivery problems and refunds would be settled between buyers and sellers without involving eBay.

However, I am confident Canada Post does.

If you can ever access the information, it would most likely read like this:

Percentage of claims paid for lost or damaged parcels to:

country A = 1.2%

country B = 0.2%

country C = 0.7%

country D = 1.1%

country E = 0.1%

country F = 0.3%

etc...

At the end of the day, that information would be largely useless to you as an eBay seller.  So, maybe the loss ratio to Brazil is 2.5%, Russia 2.2%, etc... However, most businesses will look at it the other way: 97.5% get properly delivered to Brazil, 97.8% to Russia, etc...  The value of the loss ratio will be included in the gross margins like most businesses do with shoplifting, pilferage, etc... In some industries the percentage is larger than others.

Typically, in mail order business, 2% should more than cover in most instances.

Some sellers who use 'shipinsurance'* for one-off insurance of parcels have noted that this company charges different amounts for insurance to different countries, and will not insure shipments to some countries at all.

If you find that guide, it could be useful.

However, your category is also of importance. pierre and ricarmic (and me to a very small extent) deal with stamp collectors, a highly literate and very honest bunch.

As a bookseller, I've noticed that I have more problems with buyers of Christian literature than any other topic. And another poster who sells hijabs has problems with apparent fraud from her supposedly religious customers too.

So maybe the destination is not the only problem.

*I've never used the company and have trouble remembering the exact name.

''Not Received'' Statistic

It's a bit stereotypical to assume just because a couple people from one country file "item not received", all people from that country are going to do the same. Not all eggs come from the same basket. It all depends on the countries import rules on how quickly an item is shipped/received. Some items may be returned to sender if the item doesn't meet the rules of that country, and we all know how long returned mail takes to receive. Some countries have slow mail servie in general because they have a different system in sorting mail, like Russia for example, they are still backed up with mail, can take up to 2-3 months for an airmail letter to arrive. Some countries have mail interuptions for many different reasons, postal strikes, war etc. It also depends on the item you're selling as well as others have mentioned. In my opinion, the item itself can make all the difference.

''Not Received'' Statistic

A not received statistic would be meaningless as there are many reasons why the parcel goes AWOL. The assumption that it is the receiving country is deceiving.

Hand written labels are fraught with mistakes, sloppy writing, wrong format, etc. I have transposed digits, customer had their address wrong, CN22 label did not stick, etc.

When I switched to using Paypal shipping, my INRs evaporated. Labels were in the approved pouch, firmly attached, correct typeset, proper format, geared for Customs clearance.

A statistical rate of 1-3% is not statistically significant. Far too many influencing variables which the shipper and receiver have no knowledge of.
