See what comes of that................. But
I find that I spend less for shipping since the price hikes.........
Items I used to ship via small packet now go light packet ................... and sometimes even letter mail.
If there's no insurance what's the difference?
I also now avoid TPI since the kerfuffle re stamps for small and light packets............ the trust is gone.

Darn!! Why do they have to reduce 25% to 18% for Expedited!! Why not leave them alone!! It looks like it is going to hurt small sellers like myself as I use Expedited so often.
It is bad enough that Canada Post is so imcompent in many ways and they need to "fix" by increasing those hefty rates and to remove insurance from small packets air and to remove surface small packets to USA and offered the most insane mail service which is way too expensive such as Tracked Packets.
It is absurd that they would offer this horrible expensive Tracked Packets by comparing to the new rates to Expedited. Why not compare to what they removed like small packets air and surface and we can see the huge difference and how much it will impact us?
What a tragedy that we have no choice, we cannot even afford UPS and Fedex. For example FedEx is charging $82.00 to ship a flat package to USA for $82.00 and that is 2-7 business days. Canada Post XpressPost charges for the same things in same weigh for only $ 28.50 with 2-3 business days!! What is with FedEx charging $82.00??!! Something is wrong there!!

Air Mail Small Packets have NOT been removed!

Maybe I am having a brain lapse, but what is TPI and what is the kerfuffle re stamps about?

TPI - third party insurance

I've used Fedex a few times to the U.S. It was about $22 for a 1kg package-one week delivery. Anything faster though is quite a bit more expensive.
That change in the discount for expedited shipping is depressing...especially for packages within Canada. I have to admit too that I don't see Tracked Packet as being beneficial as any time I have checked, expedited was less expensive. Once the discounts kick in I have a feeling there won't be much of a difference in price between the 2 services.

I already posted the news yesterday... people don't read before posting?

That suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkksss .... I now lose 7% discount on Expedited within Canada which I use all the time ... for what a stupid tracked packet that I would never use ..................
I'm going to kick someone in the nuts right now ..

All my shipping is Expedited - I am not happy. I pass the 25% savings on to my buyers in the listing so I can compete with the USPS rates. Well thats pretty much now down the tubes.
I notice there is no explanation. Has Canada Post renegotiated their deal with PayPal?
Does anyone know why this is happening?
I really do smell a rat - makes me wonder if PayPal is getting a point or two.

"Air Mail Small Packets have NOT been removed!"
No but surface has and I found U.S. surface was just a quick as surface plus it carried insurance before. The tracked packet can be useful but it does not make up for the other changes.

"I really do smell a rat - makes me wonder if PayPal is getting a point or two."
Its well known they do, and more then a point or 2. The former ca shipping guy claimed elsewhere he added millions to the bottom line with the cp label deal. When we got the discount ebay staff claimed here they themself took part of the hit, they never explained if that meant they lost money on them or they just took a lower % then what they could have. So no way to know if this change is all CPs doing or ebay deciding they want more...on the heels of canceling the ebay bucks
In the past there was some credible information (not from ebay) that they were getting 12% of USPS labels through paypal

Ya know - if you are right, that just stinks. I should think it is borderline illegal. But just like everything else - eBay and PayPal gets away with it, and there will be nothing anyone can do against their wall of lawyers.
It kinda smells like Wall Street/Bay Street all over again. Exept is is just eBay, PayPal, USPS and Canada Post climbing into bed with each other.

If buying something in volume and then reselling one at a time while making a profit was illegal then every seller on eBay would be involved in illegal activity.
I can't say with certainty why eBay will reduce the discounts but it could simply be that they have not meet the volume quotas set by Canada Post and have had their discount reduced.
FYI - Canada Post offers discount up to at least 40% off counter prices to contract customers. Discounts are based on annual volume. My understanding is that there are 10 discount levels available. Venture One at 5% is the first level, there is also a 3% "automation discount" for electronically printed postage, these are the only discounts that do not have a volume requirement.

I never did understand how they arrive at the discount you actually receive. How is the percentage calculated and why would it not be the same for all sellers?
03-11-2013 10:31 AM
If you're in Toronto or Vancouver, time to start shipping your parcels via courier to the States and use USPS. Other areas should look at starting similar services.
Those rates are insane compared to US postage..
03-12-2013 11:23 AM
Correct, there are multiple discount levels with Venture One being the first level. The way it is set up though, the next level's required volume is so high that I don't see any Ebay seller hitting that to qualify unless they sell a huge amount of shipped product, Carrot and stick with less carrot all the time it appears!

I fully agree with you on all you have said. I mailed a parcel today that used to go for 12.00-14.00 dollars but now with the new rules , it cost me 24.47. No profit there.I also stood there for 20 minutes while she rebooted her computer so she could weigh the parcel. I think I will start charging Canada Post for my time.

Why would you stand in line at the Post Office to buy postage?
