Shipping with Canada Post inside PayPal

Has anyone noticed you can now ship with CP or UPS from inside Paypal?

Anyone tried it yet?

Looks pretty easy and simple, but the rates don't seem to be as good as what I get now with EST. Could there be a way to ship on your CP account from there?

Also, if we ship CP Small Packet from Paypal, will they consider it as a proof of shipment?

Yup, useless. Better to just get the CP PowerSeller discount and use desktop EST (very fast, but not as fast as FedEx ShipManager)...

Just another way for PayPal and daddy eBay to make more money.

Also compare at least a 30% discount to a measly 8%.


At least you can integrate your UPS account into it, but they're so expensive it's not worth it unless you get huge discounts.


I'm going to hold out until they figure out a way to let Canada Post commercial contract customers use their contract number and get discount rates through the PayPal shipping bit. Thermal label support would also be nice.


I guess though that this was more of a priority than an actual shipping calculator for Canadian sellers - the calculator doesn't make money, this does. I wonder how long it will take them to apply the information they already know how to get to make a proper shipping calculator.


Lack of FedEx integration is a mistake, but this whole mutual backscratching deal UPS has going with so many large companies rears its ugly head again here. Too bad.

I just cleared my Paypal balance to zero, and am now unable to pay for shipping at all - neither the credit card or instant bank transfer options work.

Laird, any info on this? Is it a glitch, or deliberate?

They won't make as much money if they let you use your credit card and maybe they are worried about chargebacks!

To your question on discounts, eBay and PayPal members using the online shipping solution will save 8% on Canada Post rates for domestic services – Regular Parcel, Expedited Parcel & Xpresspost – and 9% on Canada Post rates for US/international services - Expedited Parcel-USA, Xpresspost-USA & Xpresspost-International. Savings may vary by service, weight, dimension and destination. These discounts cannot be combined with any other discounts. These discounts are not available on all USA and International Small Packets services.

To your question on GST, US/international postage totalling less than $5CAD per transaction are subject to 7% GST, and PST/HST where applicable. This should be applied whether you are purchasing your postage online through PayPal, through EST or at your postal outlet.

For US/international postal rates totalling more than $5CAD per transaction, they are not subject to the above taxes.

Please clear up this tracking information ?
I get an item ID # when I use the paypal shipping app, that is accessible through paypal and canadapost. Will this method satisfy paypal that an item has been shipped? With small packet I get this information. I also have the option to request delivery email. thanks for clearing this up.

Here I must agree 100% I will still use EST for express and other shipping where the discount does apply but at the moment most of my stuff is small packet so the new shipping app saves me time.

This is true, but until they figure out batch processing, you'll pay GST where you otherwise wouldn't have to. Not an issue though to those of us who are registered businesses - just ITC it back.

Hi everyone,

On the tracking/delivery confirmation, the online shipping tool does not offer tracking for US/International Small Packet services. As per some of the earlier posts, the number provided is a reference number that is for claims purposes only.

With respect to PayPal Seller Protection, the number provided by the Online Shipping tool will not be sufficient for PayPal to show that the item has been delivered. According to the PayPal Seller Protection policy document, you need to provide proof of delivery - proof of shipment is insufficient. For more information on the PayPal Seller Protection Policy, check out: http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_spp-outside. Section 3d refers specifically to proof of delivery.

I have noticed that there is an option on EST to show postage on some methods of paymnet it on the right hand when your filling the receivers address.

That is strange Vaughan, because I received an email from Paypal with the shipping info, then when I received the package it showed $9.15 in paid postage, and the labels were obviously printed out from a laser printer.

I'll assume the postage shown was from a previous mailing. I already threw it away, so I can't check.
