Hello 'dalejarret1',
Is this about those valves? I'm not sure if I correctly understand you, but the fees you pay will depend on the category in which it is listed, what the start/reserve price is, and of course the final sale price. On a 'buy it now' item at $650, that 50 bucks seems about right all in all. But perhaps I misunderstood you.
Here is the information link about fees for the category in which you have your valves:

If it is something else, can you post here some more specifics, say, what the item is, what your start price (or reserve price) is, which category, and so on.
Someone here will be able to sort out the puzzle, if there is one. And yes, ebay fees are astonishingly high, so the thing to do is add the fees into the item price the same way Canadian Tire includes all their overhead costs and fees into the price of their items long before the buyer gets to the checkout.
