Ten days since my purchase left Los Angeles but it still hasn't arrived in Canada?

This is my first time using the discussion board, so I hope I'm posting in the right location.

Anyways, on September 1st I purchased an extremely rare vinyl LP. Later that night I received a message from the seller saying that they were out of town and wouldn't be able to ship it out until September 8th - 10th. I told them it was fine and the record ended up getting shipped on September 9th. I frequently keep an eye on tracking information, and USPS listed the item as "Departed USPS Sort Facility" in Los Angeles on September 10th.

A few days passed, so I thought I'd check Canada Post's tracking system for any updates. It just said "International item has left originating country and is en route to Canada." Well, I've been checking everyday and it is now September 20th at 4:30pm and Canada Post still has it marked as it was on September 10th.

What exactly should I do in a case like this? The estimated delivery of the item was September 12th - 22nd, but the seller shipped over a week after I bought it. So if I was going to file a report or whatever you do, I'll probably wait until the end of the month. Has anyone ever experienced an item taking a ridiculous time to cross a border? It's been ten days and counting and there's been no notification if the item got returned to the seller, if it got held up in customs, or if it even made it out of the United States.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, and welcome to the board.

It is very common when an item is shipped between Canada and the US not to get regular tracking updates.  Your item could be at the Canada Post facility in your city , or held at customs office.  There is no need to panic, you have 45 days from the purchase date to file a claim, so I suggest waiting another week or so.  It is not fair to the seller to open a case simply because you are worried, when the seller shipped your item and you agreed to a week's delay.  How long an item takes is beyond the sellers control once they have shipped the item.

This has happened to me many times before, it is normal.  I'm sure you it will arrive in few days.  And if it gets lost, damaged you should be able to get your money back.

Thank you

Take a look at this thread:

The situation is very similar to yours.

Patience!

The estimated delivery of the item was September 12th - 22nd, but the seller shipped over a week after I bought it.

The postal services are perhaps a little optimistic, depending on where the buyer and the seller live. If you are in a rural or isolated location there may be further delays.

In any case, if the seller had shipped immediately the (optimistic) delivery date is tomorrow Monday the 22nd.

Since you allowed him to be nine days late, make that Wednesday October first.

Don't panic.

Most tracking is actually Confirmation of Delivery. You will see the acceptance of the item by the PO, and eventually it will be noted as delivered.

Tracking is really only useful to the seller, who can win an Item Not Received dispute by showing that the item was in fact delivered. It serves no purpose for the buyer.
