USPS, Customs & Social Security Numbers

I am looking for some help. I have read the posts from last November regarding the Social Security Number requirement.

I have found a company to take my packages (all under $200) across the border for me. They do a formal entry under section 321. They tell me that I require the SSN for each buyer. Customs tells me the same thing, because it is a formal entry.

Just wondering if anyone else has expereinced the same problem and how they have dealt with it.

Thanks

Michael

I have not done that yet but I wonder why you need all that info on duty free items...there is a simple declaration to be made and a possible $5 fee and the goods should be over...your agent MAY be making a simple matter very complicated. My potential delivery person who operates a cross border business states 1 very simple form only is required and certainly no info on any buyer. Why do you require a "formal" entry?

My goods are going through a customs broker for clearance into the US. The company that is transporting them brings all the items down that way.

Good luck trying to get your buyers to give out their SSN???!! that's just insane. I'd be looking elsewhere fast.

Because the truck who brings it down has a commercial licence they don't have the option of doing the $5 personal clearance.

why are you getting a commercial carrier?...what area of Canada are you in?...if Toronto there are many non-custom couriers

I am located in Ottawa. So far this is the only courier I have found. I would think that any courier would be considered commercial and would encounter the same problems.

What sort of companies in Toronto provide the same service?

Some cross border firms will deliver for example up to 100 pds for $65 CDN they will pick-up ,cross and put in post office.box...I tried using a large commercial service before and walked away from it in disgust as to how much they sought to make off me.If you are at all close to a USPS station call them and ask for the name of some small mom and pop operations serving the Ottawa area.

Does anyone have a good contact for small courier reliable companies that provide cross border shipments from Toronto to the Niagara USA border (drop them off at usps).

I'm getting sick of CP and their big delays for shipping.

Thanks,

Any one knows cross border services from Vancouver to Washington State border? I can' take Canada Post anymore. International post (other than US) with insurance and tracking been costing me CDN$60 minimum. It's killing me.
