Can anyone recommend who to use for insurance for items over $2000 sent from Canada?
CP's options are limited and most only seem to go up to $1000. i sell under another account with fairly expensive items and i am getting worried about coverage options. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what their maximum limit is but Shipsurance insures parcels from Canada.I believe that U-Pic does as well.
In the U.S. sellers can go through ebay and use a company called Shipsaver. I don't think we can go through ebay to use it but perhaps they will insure Canadians parcels directly from their site.

Thanks.
Problem for me is i sell a fair bit over $1000 and will accept a certain amount of risk over that. i found U-Pic today and their limit is $2000.
But i have sold and expect to more in excess of these amounts. Insured Bay was $5000, but they are no longer and Can Post must have recently changed their Xpress limit because i could have sworn it was $1000 (or more) but now is $100. That, combined with the likes of InsuredBay or even U-Pic had me pretty much covered.
But not any more. Hence the hunt.

You can get additional insurance from Canada Post for certain types of mailing.
Be very careful as U-Pic, Shipsurance, and CP will not insure a lot of items as well as won't insure to some countries.
Depending on what you sell, you may have to use a courier and they too have limits as well as restrictions.
Otherwise, you will have to get a blanket policy from companies like Woods (I think that is what they are called) But it is very expensive as well.
Good luck selling expensive stuff on Ebay and hopefully you will be OK

According to the following chart you automatically get $100 insurance with xpresspost but you can pay extra for insurance up to $1000. But that doesn't help you for $2000 items.

Thank-you. i will revisit the U-Pic criteria and follow up with Woods.
p.s.
Interestingly, i did check with U-Pic and confirmed with them to use only their included countries list (their included vs. excluded countries don't necessarily match).
Cheers.

Check into Hugh Wood International in Toronto. They will cover your shipments, but also your stock, your shop, shows, and travel problems.
They do annual contracts, not one offs and cover both dealers and collectors. You may find their rates and coverage a better deal than a larger commercial insurer, in part because they understand the collectibles market and the ebb and flow of hard to replace stock.

Yes, there seems to be some discrepancy because i did think that Xpress could be increased to $1000, but when i was filling out their on-line shipping label form (there was a problem with PayPals' at the time) it would only allow $100 and then this was confirmed by their agent that $100 was the max. But shows it was available.
i'll have to follow up with CP about it but in the mean time the package is gone and under-insured. And this particular customer wanted Xpress, so in theory it could have combined it with, say, a ShipSurance or U-Pic or the like, if they allow it, but it seem that it would not been insurable otherwise.
Thanks.

Thank-you very much!!
i recall you posting this some time ago but could not remember when/where i saved it. i most certainly will follow up on it.
i don't get a chance to review the boards much but i notice that you and pjcdn2005 and others are prolific and a great help to the eBay community! Thank-yous to all.

For what it's worth, i have discovered the source of confusion over XpressPost 's possible insurance coverage.
Though seemingly not well-documented, the coverages are country-specific. In my case, Singapore, is ineligible for increased insurance coverage and therefore qualifies only for the $100 included in the price of shipping.
This link, according to Canada Post, should be of value eBay sellers insuring with Canada Post as it provides country-specific details for each service.

That's interesting..I hadn't thought of that.
Thank you for the info.

Canadian sellers using U-Pic should note that, though they advertise up to $2000, if you are shipping with Canada Post the limit of coverage is $1000.
