eBay Offers New Global Seller Protection with a Catch

eBay is offering new seller protection for some international transactions, but it comes with a catch. The marketplace urged U.S. sellers to consider selling to shoppers located in Brazil and Russia through a message on the eBay.com Announcement Board on Monday.

"Now's the time to cash in on exploding global demand! Brazil, Russia, India, China and other emerging markets are predicted to account for 60% of ecommerce growth over the next few years, and Russia and Brazil are two of the hottest markets."

As part of its sales pitch, eBay said it now offers extra protection for sellers shipping to Russia or Brazil that are caused by customs delays. "If one of your Russian or Brazilian buyers files an eBay Buyer Protection case and leaves low or neutral feedback and/or low ratings for ship time, eBay will remove all feedback for the transaction if you resolved the issue promptly with the buyer."

As you can probably imagine, the sellers who are reading this closely don't really see how the removal of negative feedback in cases like these is going to inspire them to sell to the destinations in question.
