ebay is so generous...

Ebay is so generous ...when they are spending my money. I guess the way it now works if a buyer contact you after you send their parcel for an item that is not as described or item not received it is automatically opening as an item dispute. I found this out yesterday talking to a client in Germany they wanted to contact me to tell me that their parcel did not arrived and she said she never opened a dispute she was trying to contact me to see where her parcel was at and it was opened as a dispute.

Another client in the USA contact me when their parcel was sent last week and it was opened as a dispute as well. In the dispute they said that if they did not receive their order by Friday, that they wanted to return the product and this is where eBay so generous of offering this as a resolution : The buyer is to return their purchases for a full refund and the seller is to paid the returned fees.

Here is another example of another dispute from a buyer that purchased a skating dress and after they received their order they contacted me...in a dispute again. Their item was not as described because it did not fit her daughter and she told me that she did not see size chart on the listing description ( this is my fault I had forgotten to add the size chart to the listing) and  she said that her daughter's last dress was a size 6X/7 and that the next size up should have fit her.  She never contacted me prior to purchasing the dress or to ask me for the measurements or why there was no size chart, so why should I be penalized and pay for her returned fees for her lack of judgement.

This is all in 1 weeks in my slow season...I normally get 1 item dispute every 6 months or so I think that ebay made some changes and it's no looking good for us sellers.

Does anyone knows what is going on? Anybody else is seeing this?

Re: ebay is so generous...

First off they are not "disputes" they are "cases" and unless they arer escalated by the buyer they don't mean anything. Just treat them as if they were a simple question from the buyer which is what they are.

Perfect that make more sense. However I can see the importance of shipping with a tracking number with this new process. Thanks!

Re: ebay is so generous...

Tracking ? Yes and no.

Generally I think insurance is more important and usually cheaper. And cheapest of all is self-insurance, where you put a few pennies (or dimes) into your Handling charge on every item to cover the occasional loss or damage.

If you are paying an extra dollar or five dollars for unnecessary tracking, your profit soon disappears.

There are categories where this strategy would be foolish. Coins, horse tack, dolls, militaria and sports cards ? I'd be tracking and insuring. Not because of the postal system though.

But I have the luxury of selling books, dress patterns, postage and postcards. Very honest customers.

Re: ebay is so generous...

The buyers actually have an option when going to contact you they just have to choose other and it will not open any case and they can just ask you the only issue is the buyers don't notice the OTHER option..

Re: ebay is so generous...

When a buyer is asking a question about where their order is why would they or should they pick "Other" instead of "Item Not Received"?

Re: ebay is so generous...

To just send a basic message with out opening a case or any of the other stuff..

Had 2 US buyers very confused by what happen because they just wanted to ask a question not open a case and then I even had to help the one with how to close the case.
